Any Complaints (hopefully all minor)

Some people's expectations are out of this world. These are the same people that rat on their neighbors, or complain to the cops about noisy kids in the neighborhood etc.. the whining types.

The CX-5 is a well built machine, it's beautiful, the ride is as smooth as ever handles curves like no other in its class. I drive at around 80mph on the Garden State Parkway and my mirror besides a little vibration is not really that much different from the bigger SUV I have, same with the hood. I don't see it. My Tom Tom Navi works great for me, I don't use voice control I hate voice control. I manually input addresses, set up favorite destinations etc.. and it's working great getting me where I need to go no problems.

I understand the complaints that some have voiced and don't want to villify them. I know how it feels to be in the middle of something seemingly minor, but when you're in the middle of it it can feel like a huge disaster. At the same time, once you're out of it it helps to take a step back and think about whether you're being fair or not.

Many read about the problems I had with my dealer in another thread, who took and cashed a check for the full purchase price of the car and then didn't deliver and stalled when asked for updates/details. At the time, I was mad at not only the dealer but all of Mazda and was going to cancel entirely. Then I realized that it was just the dealer and an isolated problem that shouldn't and didn't reflect on the entire company or the vehicle itself and I have loved my CX-5 ever since. It *is* a great car.

To those saying that they are scared away because of this thread: these kinds of threads exist for most any product out there one can buy! This thread is *specifically* asking people to post concerns/complaints so anyone reading this thread shouldn't decide not to buy a CX-5 just based on this. In fact, I would say that reading this thread should only prove what a great vehicle it is! But to each his own interpretation.

As a result of all the concerns expressed, I've started an "antidote" thread for people to also see the great things about the CX-5. I hope people will post some of their favorite things there.

Hell, I see some of this stuff...minor vibrations, etc. It is indeed a first year car, but after getting my first 3 in 2004...I expect that. That's why I got extended warranties thrown on my deal, didn't even have to haggle much to do it either. bumper to bumper for 60k...drivetrain for 100k...that was included no cost. I paid for a few extras, but that's what I did. I got lucky and found a good dealer on my first try.

my 04 3 had a fuel pump failure first week I had it. took over a week to get the pump from Japan...never had another issue until 75k...transmission, gone. under warranty, but I traded up into a 3 GT in 08. I drove the crap out of both of those cars. I'll keep buying Mazdas, if they keep building them this way. I wanted to wait for year two for the CX5...drove it once, bought it that afternoon. Don't miss the power (don't need it..See transmission in 3..that sport shifter is fun...and destructive), need the space, but hate cars that don't handle. I can take curves at speed, I can store stuff, I have room for people in my car now, Hell, I can even take people on a trip without covering the back window with stuff. I'm a huge fan of this ride...people will complain, people will have issues, but honestly, you bought a car. You should do your homework, test it, whatever...it's not like a bicycle or something, it's a long term deal. Best Advice I got...don't buy something you don't completely love, because it sucks to pay for something you don't like.

Lol this is what u get when u read a post asking for complaints. You can find similar threads on bulletin boards for even the most highly regarded products, such as those from Apple. Incidentally, I think the exact reason Apple is so wildly successful is because their products stand out in a world of lowered expectations and 'beta' products (poorly designed, tested, and rushed to market - ie half-baked). Mazda is breaking some new ground here with design innovations in the body and engine which make buying this vehicle a little bit of a risk long term perhaps. If anyone wants a little less risk, although not necessarily better design or quality, buy a Honda or Toyota. You will be bored to tears, bit that's what life is like without risk ...

Amen!!!! (bow)(bow)(bow)

If you don't like your car, stop bitching and get rid of it, or set it on fire and call the insurance company. Every time someone has something to say, you chime in and tell everyone how much you hate your car.

We get it. Your car is a TOTAL POS compared to the impeccable fit and finish of a Fit.

But look on the bright side. My friends $60k Mercedes had a HELL of a lot more problems than you've described. I was with him on one trip to the dealer, and I got talking to a guy who dropped his $200k SL65 off for a $2k starter replacement. I asked him how he liked his car, and he responded with, "its great...when I can actually drive it. Its sad when you have to buy a $16k Kia to drive because your $200k benz is in the shop so much". Talk about feeling let down about your purchase.

I've owned Mazdas for over 12 years and not a single problem and a couple of years ago my father decided to buy a BMW 5 series and I can't even remember the whole list of all the things that have been wrong with that car from oil and coolant leaks to a bad starter and a bunch of other ones. And don't even get me started with idrive.

I noticed something while I was out driving in a little bit of fog/mist last night. When you turn your high beams on in fog/mist, 2 beams of light shoot straight up and block some of your view (next time I'm out in fog I'll try to get pictures). It's not a huge deal as you don't normally drive in fog with HBs on. It was one of those nights last night where you're not sure if you should use them or not lol. I was just wondering if anybody else is noticing the same thing?

^ That's why high beams should NOT be used in fog/mist on any car.

I think this is fairly normal in my experience from all cars. Just the scattering of the light with a lot coming back toward you.

This thread serves no other purpose than to create this negative environment with no useful information on how to address these so-called "problems". Perhaps this thread should be locked, and it would be much better to open separate threads that deal with the specific most reported issues (mirror, hood, etc.). People experiencing those particular issues could then report on their own experiences and on possible solutions, be it from them, their local stealership, or directly with Mazda. Much easier to find answers in an issue-specific thread. Oh, and by the way, crying and moaning usually don't get things done unless you're less than 2 years of age.

I wouldn't say the thread should be locked. Most people understand what this thread is about. Every car has its minor complaints no matter the cost, manufacturer etc.
For me, this thread is a good place to see things to watch out for that others have noticed or had problems with. If a few select people see this thread as a massive list of horrible known issues plaguing the cx-5 then they haven't read this whole thread, don't understand much about cars and/or haven't been on any other car forums before.

I was disheartened to see the slew of negative remarks directed at a poster. Forums are to share and express opinions and facts about vehicles. Please allow people to do so, be helpful if you can. There is no reason to be mean.

Agree with this... anything you buy will have positive and negative, heck, I'd be very, very scared to buy something where nobody has anything negative to say about the product (like those crazed apple fanboys).
When you buy a product, you check the middle reviews where people are honest and put the plus and minus , that's how you make a decision on wether you buy a product or not (there's more to it, obviously, it's a car not a TV, but you get my point!) :)

This^

These negative threads are necessary. When I buy a product, I look for the complaints/negative reviews and judge for myself if I can live with these issues. As I did when I bought my CX-5. I saw the issues posted and decided from the test drive that it was worth the purchase. Through my rants and your guys replies, I've come to feel a little better about my purchase and learned a thing or two about my vehicle (for example my questions about the material in the rear wheel well were answered almost immediately). Plus there's something to be said about how a good vent can make you feel better, even if it accomplishes nothing.

Living in the foggiest city in North America (statistically), I can assure you there are times when it is safer to drive in light fog with your HBs on. Especially when you have moose on the road.

That being said, has anybody else notice these beams of light?

Using high beams for conditions that were not intended by design, it's no surprise.
That being said, driving at appropriate speeds for conditions, will reduce risk of moose collisions. Living in deer country with challengine country roads, I know.

I know exactly what you are saying guys. Like I said, I live in the foggiest city in North America. Most fog will not allow for any use of HBs. If you take a moment to search for safe driving techniques in fog, most say to test your lightning to see what works best for you (including HBs). Some also say to test your HBs as fog lightens to see if it improves visibility (http://www.wikihow.com/Drive-Safely-in-Fog) see number 5. Same goes for snow. Now that our safety lesson is over, these pillars of light obstruct your view more so than normal HBs making them impossible to use in any fog. Again a minor issue, but drivers should have the option to use HBs in light fog if they feel it improves visibility.

All I'm trying to find out is if this is something anybody else has noticed or if it's limited to my vehicle. I should point out that the only time I've noticed this was on the highway in very low light.

Sorry, I forgot there are differences in the US and Canada. As far as I can tell they are standard head lights/high beams. Nothing in the brochure or on the website seems to indicate any different. If it helps the GX is basically a Touring.
