Drag Truck Build Thread

Oh, if you're wondering what the giant disc on the front is, it's a timing wheel. 360 degrees marked at every degree. 100% custom designed and made by myself.

(boom06) Can i drop that into my 73 beetle? I need a little more torque than what I currently have.

We've got the frame fully boxed in now. Next step is to reinforce it for safety. Also, getting chromoly 4130 material for a full 10 or 11 point cage. Called a company about a tube bender and they wanted to see pictures and possibly throw a sponsorship at us! We didn't even ask we just wanted a tube bender. Pretty awesome!

when you are going for a build this epic, im not shocked companies want to be a part of it hahaha

They do want to see some pictures before they decide. If they decide they don't want to it's not going to change anything. There just won't be a huge sticker with their name on the truck. Either way it's awesome!

Ok, they've put the body on the frame (I'll post up some pictures tomorrow). I've also learned that the triple turbo setup is NOT for the drag truck. It's for streetables. The plan is to put a small turbo on for idle and getting it to the line. After that it is basically bypassed and is essentially an NA.

Not for the drag truck? I R confuzzled.

The purpose here is to save weight and money. Some of the logic for this build is redneck IMO but hey, this is Indiana. I talked to him a little about it and he kept saying it needs to make whatever weight. No dual axle, straight up RWD. I'll try and get some more information from him about the turbo stuff.

Perhaps your turbo post was worded in a confusing way. Did you mean that the little guys are used for putting around, and then those are bypassed in favor of the big guy for the strip?

No no no. I was under the impression that the triple setup was for the actual drag truck. In fact it's being fabricated strictly for street truck or some other drag truck (different class I think). The turbo for the actual drag truck that we're building is a small one. Just one turbo.

Oh Oh oh. OK. When you said NA that's what threw me way off.

Ok after a little more discussion here's what I've learned. One 80MM turbo, and nitrous. That's why no triple setup. We're also in the process of getting a dyno. WOOT!!! Myself, the boss and one other guy are supposed to go out of state for training on it when we get it. 6 week lead time on it so, plenty of time to learn how to be safe with it.
