What have you done to your MS3 today?

Im beginning to wonder if I will like my jbr knob I could be getting for Xmas. It seems most people do not enjoy the added weight.

What I don't understand is why people buy the lightened JB shifter weight... then buy the heavier JB shift knob... they seem to cancel each other out.

the lightened weight reduces mass at the transmission, reducing lash

the heavier knob assists in getting the car in gear, big weight at the end of a lever = momentum

if he made a heavier one id get rid of my jbr and get that one

The shifter weight is a big weight at the end of a lever too. I don't see how the two are functionally different because they are linked through a push-pull cable.

yeah, kinda covered by that Newton dude in laws 1, and 2

you invest the effort to get that mass moving, and it rewards you by overcoming a mismatched shift by expending priorly invested energy into the shift cogs

Exactly. I don't think it matters if the mass is in the shift knob or the shift weight. Mass is mass...

Mass is mass but its the LOCATION that counts

Remove the shifter weight in the engine bay completely, what happens, shifting is light as hell but notchy as s***. Mazda put a big weight there to dampen the notchiness.

The drawback with a big weight there, is the effort to shift is higher, so by reducing weight at that end, effort becomes easier and notchy feel increases

By adding a heavy knob at the end of the shifter, you are effectively providing the additional dampening at the shifter assembly itself and also using the added weight to assist in getting the car in gear.

I just wish that

#1. - Aftermarket knobs weren't so expensive.

and...

#2. - They looked a little more like stock. I don't want something that's all metal... spending a summer with one of those should prove to be painful.

so i just found a set of evo IX MR bbs wheels over here for 600 w/ tires in mint cond... what do you guys think? worth it? how do they fit and look on our cars? any pictures and pros cons? what size tires would i have to get for no rubbing. and im about to drop my car on some tein s-tech springs also.!!

don't know the lug pattern, but assuming it fits, its a pretty serious offset. 8 inch rim offset +38. i believe that's a 27.5 mm extension outward as compared to stock. unless you plan to roll the fenders and possible stretch your tires, there could be issues. especially lowered.

much love brother

I did my time in cook county

and you can roll up in FLA anytime and be welcome

Haha I'm glad you picked up that I was joking. I need to remember to use magenta font. I will definitely take you up on the invitation to hang out in FL. My fiancee and I were planning on doing a road trip sometime in the next couple of years so while it may not be anytime soon, it will be cool to see some more Mazda folks. Of course all of you are more than welcome to come and hang out up here in OH when we have big events like the one at Mid Ohio. Of course they're during the summer :D

On another note, I decided to sell my track wheels to my roommate (Lewis7789) The 17x7 +48 will work much better on his P5. I will be using the money to purchase a new set of wheels which will be my new summer setup. I will be putting the 2nd gen wheels up for sale as well as soon as I can get some good pics of them. They are freaking flawless. As far as the new wheels go, all I'll say for now is that they are 18x8 +47 and I have not found a single MS3 or even Mazda that has them.
