Turbo Rotary Mazda B2600i Minitruck Build!

well hopefully one day we will meet. that way i can see your sick ride in person. i want to buy a jeep later this year then in a couple years make a trip out west to go off roading out there. so if all goes well (i hope i didnt jynx myself) i will be out by you in a couple years lol then you can say you are putting them up for me . someone you did meet lol
im about an hour or so from moab, so ur more than welcome to come stay here!

and hell ya, it would be badass to meet some mazda lovers!

ill hold u to it!

Lol I get eye rolls when I head to the garage with my camera.

Solid update, man.
thank u kind sir!

Normally I'd say that caddy lights are played out, but I've never seen them in this configuration so it's going to look awesome! And as far as I'm concerned, your truck is one of the great builds out there. Not many people can think out of the box and put it into action and you're one of those people so don't sell yourself short. Oh and we're expecting a 1st class win when you finish up the truck and enter it into a show.
i am almost 100% positive that this mod has never been done before... and as for the 1st place win, im hoping to atleast win best under construction at this next show i attend!

thanks for the good words man! it means a lot to me, and keeps me motivated on this damn thing...
Have you looked at the "v-mounts"? Due to space you probably can't get away with the setups I see on a lot of FD's but I image you could do something with the radiator/intercooler so one isn't blocking the other. Something perhaps like how the radiator/oil cooler is setup on the FC? Then again, that would require you to move the oil cooler or do something different (dual oil coolers in front of wheels?).
i actually already bought a brand new vmount, but either imma have to get a smaller one or figure something else out. the way the hood and core support come together with the truck being so low is killing my amount of room, and also im going to have to figure out a different radiator too, but in due time my friend!

once i get the turbo in for goo then i can start brainstomring and figuring all that s*** out!

Gratz on getting the manifold to test fit finally!

-Derrick
ya, its been a long time coming!

looking real good. Comming along nicely
thank u sir! hows urs coming? havent seen any updates lately...

so, i got mixed reviews from everyone wanting or not wanting me to do the caddy lights, but after lots of measuring and thinking and mocking up, i decided to start cutting... lol.

first off i made templates( makes me feel like im in 2nd grade all over again)

6000823076_3964204185_b.jpg

then trying to decide on placement. this is very hard to do by urself...

6000278615_c3bfffc20b_b.jpg

then i cut them out, and then found out there is a whole lot more guts on the inside that was in the way and needed cutout, so out came the sawzall and about an hour of manipulating to get them to seat properly...

6000829518_4eaa2b92a1_b.jpg

sorry about the horrible pics, but here u get an idea..

the body line will be gone around the light, and it will all be smoothed out and flush. they will look like theyre supposed to be there when its all said and done..
6000283495_0b45c293ff_b.jpg

and here it is after trimming the bucket up to make them flush fitting with the cab wall...

6000834534_b6c0414738_b.jpg

now, that was the easy side... now i just gotta make the other side be in the exact same spot and level and all that fun shiit...

6000848550_3b7436e5b5_b.jpg

crudely set in after rough cutting...

6000850342_157400d21d_b.jpg

and this is where i ended up stopping... not a bad mod. took me about three hours to get to the point. i will still need to box in and trim the buckets a bit, and then weld them in and smooth them out a bit, but all in all i am very happy with them.

they actually dont look out of place at all, and i think they flow very well with the lines of the window and the cab!

hopefully get some more work done soon. was supposed to be off this week, but ended up having to work everyday so far, so havent gotten much accomplished...

i hope u guys dont hate the lights and will still tune in for more! i promise its only gonna get better!

im beginning to wonder if i can do anything that u guys would tell me u hate lol...

more updates tonight if i feel like uploading pics!

Those lights look like ass, the build sucks, you suck, your mom sucks.

LOL just kidding. I love your build. Now post pics before I beat you.

seriously, you've made a lot of good choices so far. there is nothing to hate...
now, paint the truck purple and put some unicorns on the side and i'll give you some hate!
speaking of which, what color will it be?

thats better... haha

I second that minus the beating though..
ah cmon, ur no fun...

its no fun unless theres a fight involved...

well if ya wanna test that theory then you first need to do something thats worthy of hate lol
well there will always be haters...

too bad i havent done anything yet that i absolutely despise...

purple with unicorns eh? u couldnt be mad if i did that and then blew the doors off of u now could ya?

lol.

paint is still in the air... no idea...

well, i got a kinda sorta day off from work(well, i didnt get called in atleast), so i put in a good day on the truck. didnt get as much done as i wanted, but it hard to do some of this stuff by urself, so its slow going...

on to the pics...

so i started off the day working on the steering so i can get this thing out of my garage and into the sun!

started by strapping in the steering column to get placement right. the strap is there so the superglue can dry thats holding the column to the firewall....

6027438640_b4bcaba3c9_b.jpg

then during this part of the operation, i get a call from the guy building my turbo manifold. i had seen him earlier that morning at breakfast with my wife and had told him if he got it welded up that day that i would make the 30 minute drive to his house to come get it. so he calls me and tells me its done!

i drive to his house, and pick it up, and heres the pic when i layed it in my back seat for transport! i will be using header wrap on this do to the high heat, but itll do the job!

6027442094_4bffd4a496_b.jpg

so then i went home and got back to work on getting the steering in and the dash mounted properly...

definitely hard to line the dash up and figure out spacing and such by myself...

6027443786_eb4360aa9f_b.jpg

man, i really need a new steering wheel, and i couldnt find the turn signal selectors and such, so i ended up doing a bit of organizing in my garage...

still never found them, so i may have to buy new ones lol...

more pics of the mani after i took it out of the truck and tucked it into bed...
6027445744_a96d3c4212_b.jpg

definitely worth the wait for the beautiful tig welds...

6027449560_506ce47c2b_b.jpg

starting to take shape...

6027451226_2f00f8065c_b.jpg

i got the dash in where i want it, so i started fitting the door panels...

i think these things r gonna look nice, but its gonna take a lot of fiberglass to make them look right, then i will rewrap them in matching vinyl and build sheetmetal door skins!
also been lookin into power windows, so more on that later!

6027453164_6c5c0c75e6_b.jpg

sorry about the blurry pics...

i will be able to use the rx& door handles and everything! so stoked on this!

6026921719_032d28c942_b.jpg

hopefully get some more done on this beast this week!

stay tuned!

looks real good, lots of hard work there.I just had my truck to all truck thisweekend. Had a blast there.Im heading down to virginia to pick up a new frame so i can get to work soon

Looking real good. I like the dash too. Makes me want to work on a mini but I'd probably go N/A with ITBs.

Go aluminum on the neck. Find an S4 version and get an elbow welded on it to aim a better direction once you sort out the radiator.
