The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Harry's GPS Lap Timer on my iPhone. I dock it in the TomTom car kit for the iPhone, which gives me a place to put the thing and it theoretically helps with the GPS accuracy.

One of these days I will have a Traqmate but it keeps getting pushed down the list.

my white wheels have Yokohama Parada Spec 2 but they're pretty worn on the inside, I have no idea how they compare to yours. considering how your pads looked when you swapped them out I'm thinking you might still using the brakes too much, that's why your pressure was so high in the front (this + understeer). When I swapped my pads I was close to 40k miles and had at least 2/3 of life left on them, I don't have a turbo but you know how I drive.

Higher pressure in the rears will help you rotate but at least for me I can rotate fine with all 4 at the same pressure AND the rear sway set to soft which is pretty much your medium setting, also I gain around 4 PSI evenly after a run with the slicks but I don't know what that says about my driving. I don't think you should increase stiffness on your RSB yet, play a little with the pressure first or it might be too much and bite you in the ass. With the Yokohamas I was shooting to have 34 PSI tops all around after a run, for you I would shoot for 32 at the front and 35/36 at the rear. Next time check what the pressure is before your first run to see how much you're gaining, again I'm gaining 4 all around but I would guess you're gaining at least 6 in front

One major thing I noticed is that when I would brake heavily, the car basically falls flat on it's face. Because of the stock suspension, the car would lean forward a good amount causing the rear of the car to be unstable due to lack of weight on the wheels. I think this would over-work the front tires and brakes. I remember the front wheels being insanely hot after sessions, and the heat radiating from the brakes was crazy.

I haven't seen or heard of that unit before. Do you know anyone who is using it?

I've been following it for a few years now, it's been evolving quite well i think. Most of the reviews\comments I've seen are from people that use it for drag racing. it's cheaper than other systems out there, the other option was maxqdata but they have reduced the amount of devices they support. Also, you can integrate the g-tech to this, it's an extra $20 but seems to have some decent analysis should you want to really know how your lap went

nevermind, I downloaded and installed the free software listed on the g-tech site and it looks really good. I might get this once I can afford it

Evan, don't forget to add in the cost of a helmet with your tires. ;)

Haha ya I definitely need to get a helmet asap. I still have yours in my trunk, just let me know when's the best time to drop it off. I can probably just give it to you on Sunday if you guys definitely have that house warming thing.

I'm just busting your balls, brotha. I'll just see ya sunday. It just doesn't feel the same when I watch TopGear without my helmet. Oh how Clarkson makes me swoon...

come over to my place pumpkin, you can:

  • use my helmet
  • watch any episode you want (I have all seasons + specials)
  • shoot some zombies
  • put some miles on your car

I've actually worn the helmet on my way home from work once during rush hour traffic just to see what reactions I would get. It was pretty funny, people looked at me like WTF???????????

I tried that on Halloween last year, turns out it's illegal... still funny though

On a side note...I got a promotion!!!! I'm now a Technical Support Engineer II (tier 2). So basically, my job doesn't change at all because I've been doing that job for 6 months now lol. I'll now make salary, which means they can make me work the hell out of me now (nothing new, I already work 50+ hours a week lol)...except now I won't get paid over time which is time-and-a-half. At least I'll still make a lot more money, and I get benefits WOOHOO!!!

They originally offered me the position a few weeks ago, but I've been negotiating a higher salary. At first, they offered me more money than what I'm making hourly at 40 hours a week, but with all the overtime I work, I would make $5,000 less per year as salary. I was like, I don't understand this promotion...you guys are very happy with my work, yet you want to pay me less?? HAHA We went back and forth and I finally got them to give me a reasonable amount. It's actually a lot considering I have no college degree...yet!

Haha...I had a feeling it was illegal, but part of it doesn't make sense...I mean you are wearing a helmet so technically you're safer in the event of an accident HAHA.

Good stuff Evan. Congrats!

I am trying to get promoted at my work as well. Have an interview tomorrow, in fact. When all the dust settles, I believe there will be three positions available with three people applying, so it should end in everyone being happy--me especially! Still won't be salary, though. That's my ultimate goal in the next year or two.
