external wastegate setups

I think on our stock turbo its a C clip you have to compress and then it spins around. I think I am going to do this. I just need to figure out If I can get a machine shop to mill out a hole in the front of my steedspeed manifold and weld in a V band for the external wastegate. And after I do that If it is ok to put the o2 sensor in the j pipe. If all that is OK and I wont have any problems I should be good to go. Because all of the stock lines (oil and coolant) should hook up ok and then all I would have to do is mock up some IC pipes for my cold side going to my IC. It really shouldnt be that hard to do I wouldnt think. Is there any snags you guys would think I would run into? I also would have to have a dump tube made but once again I am just gonna run that straight down off the wastegate Open dump FTW!!!!

mine is clocked lol you have to remove the c clip, spin the housing down, then put the c clip back in
BUT, to get the clip out, i used needle nose pliers with ground down tips, c clip pliers wont do it, i had to remove the exhaust housing to get the compressor housing clip with my pliers
and its a b****, the only problems you would have is you have to grind down the block just to get the turbo to bolt up, it hits the block if you dont
right by the threaded section for one of the trans bolts is where u grind down, and if ur running an aftermarket oil drain, you'll need a 90* 10AN, a 45* barely fits (not up to my standards) so im getting a 90* to clear
if you need any more info, feel free to PM me

Im sorry man I thought you had a GT28rs clocked. If people clock the GT28rs and it fits how come you have to grind down the block for the stock turbo to fit. My oil drain is stock. Will all of my stock oil lines and water lines fit up? That shouldnt change anything should it? When you ground down your block about how much material did you have to take off?

Do you have any pics of your set up?

i really have no idea why i had to grind down the block...im using a thunder mani and stock turbo, the coupler WOULDNT fit without grinding it down,
its not alot to grind down though, your not grinding any structural parts, just the un-used threads of one of the trans bolt holes
the oil/coolant lines stay the same, with the stock oil drain u should be fine, ill try to find a pic of when i had the engine out

those are the best i have...sorry, and as u can see, its cramped down there

Sweet man thanks a lot. I wonder if my machine shop could mill out the front of my steedspeed manifold and put the V band where the o2 sensor sits. They are a pretty good machine shop, I wouldnt think it would cause too much problems do you?

Can you clock the turbo at any angle you want since it does not have bolts on the compressor side but a C-clamp? If so Ill angle my outlet a little more toward the front of the car so it will have some extra room. Thanks alot for those pics.

you could do that, but then the WG actuator would hit the block lol trust me, i thought about doing that instead first, but its already BARELY got any space, like mm's
you can see how close it is in the pic

and the V band would be a good idea, but you would have to ask the machine shop to be sure they could do it, i dont see why the couldnt

What did you do to get the WGA to mount to the turbo? Did you have to make a special bracket? everyone I have talked to says that a new bracket is needed if you clock the turbo?

If I did run a EWG I probably could turn it more since the WGA wouldnt be there, couldnt I?

Can I see pics of your setup? I am thinking of having it put right where the o2 sensor is on my steedspeed manifold and then relocating that sensor to the j pipe and getting a new bung welded in the j pipe for my wideband.

I think it was from Technic. I can't find the link. He wanted $150. The manifold needed to be cleaned up a bit.
