NEMOC Random BS Thread

that's a stock steering wheel. it's not that difficult to swap wheels.

oh I know it's stock I was just wondering if switching wheels involved something major like messing with airbags.

I'll interpret "it's not that difficult to swap wheels" as "no you don't have to mess with airbags."

Yeah, you do have to disconnect the airbag (so some safety, such as waiting for power to draw down after disconnecting the battery is in order), but it comes right back in. Marc (Zelse) here on the forum has done it on his car (switched from chapparel to all black).

Soooooo....

My sis just got into an accident in her 93 Camry. Car is totaled but everyone is alright. She was going about 30 mph through an intersection when someone pulled out in front of her attempting to turn right on red. The driver's view was blocked by a bus in the next lane and when she pulled out my sister t-boned her. This was down in MD and the car doesn't have collision. At most she would have got $1500 for it anyway. Now she's looking for something new.

Here requirements are that it can't cost more than $6,000 and has to have less than 100K miles, preferrably around 60K miles but that might be a stretch, and it should be good for city driving and occasional trips between MD and MA. Oh, and she can't drive stick. I was thinking a Protege5 might be a good bet. Any other ideas? She just graduated law school so student loans are where the bulk of her paycheck is going. A reliable car is a must and from what I have seen of owners here, the P5 sounds like a good bet.

I got an '00 Nissan Altima in college because it had to be under a certain amount and less than 75K miles. (That's what I traded in for the MS6) It never gave me problems other than some nagging stuff with the brakes (never figured it out, either)... Mine was a stick but that's REALLY rare so she'd have better luck.

I'm with Josh, stay with imports. I also had an '85 Accord but I nearly literally ran it into the ground... when the clutch cable snapped, I said I didn't feel safe driving the car anymore and I got the Altima. That was after a couple alternators, brakes, blown head gasket, etc.

I'm not suggesting this car...just an interesting story...

my first car (rx8 is my 2nd) was a 96 Pontiac Sunfire...bought it for $3,000 when I was 16..it had 107k miles on it. Drove that thing for 8 years through high school and college until it finally gave out this past May with ~220k on it and a blown head gasket. That car NEVER gave me a single problem with the exception of the usual rotors/pads and one fuel pump. Best $3k I ever spent.

But fo' shizzle...imports.

oh snap...Jenn...look at your phone...

Edit: Gah...nvm. Contact list didn't transfer. Can't text yet lol

Glad everyone is alright. Just to give you an idea, when I bought my P5 3 years ago, I got it for $6500 with 91k miles on it. I have no doubt that you can find one now with the required mileage and cost. Mine's been a good car, aside from being drowned in the Great Salt Lake a few times.

Good morning folks. Yesterday morning had the chance to try the new snow tires, streets in Waltham/Belmont were covered with black ice. Realized that turning into Dunkins to grab my morning fix. They held very well.

Yup, like Oleg said, I helped swap Marc's entire interior with another RX-8 owner. I can tell you that the steering wheel was the most difficult part. Heck I've taken mine all apart as well when I installed the eDead sound deadening.

I had its cousin, a 97 grand am.

That car was the most rabid pile of trash I've ever owned. Burn in hell, pontiac.

They used to have these homemade lollipops at the gardening center my dad went to when I was a kid. They made a cream soda flavor that was unreal.
