Advice on HIDs Plz

I was just wondering if anyone had suggestions on what type of HID projector kits would be good to use for the 2010 MS3?

I live in Massachusetts and they can be tough on inspections. I want something that looks nice but passes inspection and doesn't get me pulled over.

I was wondering the same thing actually. Any help will be appreciated.

Hey where in Mass do you live?

I orderd one from HIDCOVERSIONSHOP @ EBAY.
4300k for $100 shipping included.
It looks just like OEM and works fine.
It's been about a month and so far totally satisfied.
It was really easy to install and done in 30 min.
You guys will like it.

I grew up in Gardner which is not to far from you. I am actually stationed in Maryland but I will be moving back at the end of my tour. I still get all my cars insured and registered through MA though.

I got this kit for $70 ($90 w/ shipping) H11 for the 2010 low beams and I got 6000k but get 5000k to look more stock.

Yeah I have seen your videos on You Tube. They look nice. The beam pattern didn't look to bad on them either. Have you had any issues with them so far or any issues with the Cops? I know how Virginia cops can be I used to be stationed down there. lol

The only thing holding me back from adding HID's to the MS3 is the projector headlamps. I recall reading somewhere awhile back that projector headlamps aren't made to be used with HIDs unless they were specifically produced to.

Has anyone seen a problem with this? HIDs should have DEFINATELY been standard from the factory on the MS3. I mean, seriously...not even an option?!

wow, since finding this thread less then 12 hours ago, I'm about to place an order on the DDM sale site. That price is almost unbeatable for a lifetime warranty!

No issues and I drive home in the dark and I followed a marked car for miles at one point a few nights ago. Nobody flashes their lights at me either.

When I first got them my wife was driving my speed (I know.. I know) and I was driving her car and even with her autodimming mirror off it was no brighter than a maxima/bmw/audi. Looks very unique on the road, but not "too unique" if you know what I mean =)

Stavesacre21 - I heard that too but did it anyways and couldn't be happier with them. For one thing it's like $70-$100 to try it and if you don't like them, sell them on the forums to recoup some cost. I'm sure if you paid for the lenses etc it would look better, but my budget is not that high

Did you just plug and play or did you have to play with the head lamps at all?

Did the cutoff seem pretty pronounced and clear? I saw the video and up close to the garage it's a lil hard to tell. I know the factory lens with halogens produces a pretty good cut-off. Is it almost identical with xenon?

EDIT - well after knawing on this for almost 24 hours, I just decided to take the plunge and order a set of the DDM 4300K. As he mentioned, for $90 shipped you almost can't go wrong with this. I couldn't see myself not liking this setup, and with this thread putting it into perspective I know not to expect factory sharp HIDs, but yet a vast improvement over stock. Went with 4300K's because my RX-8 and MS6 both had identical bulbs from the factory, and they were both perfect. I'm not looking to show the car, just to use it as a daily driver.

I'll take some before and after photos and either throw up a new post or throw them in here. Thanks for all the info guys.

Just plugged them in. I suck at working on cars and I did it in like 15 minutes which included trying to figure out where to put the ballasts.

The cut-off is not as good as the stock HID projectors. There are those little boxes you can see on the videos which is technically glare I think. You don't notice them unless you pull that close to the wall. It's really not noticable and the people I have shown think they are OEM.

Even with factory HID, i've found that being extremely close to a wall will yield some odd marks that are seemingly out of place. Move back to at least 15-20 feet to get a better idea of cut-off. Have any other pics of your cutoff lines?

Thanks for all the info so far!

EDIT - for anyone else looking to get these DDM HIDs, I just found them HERE for only $65 with my shipping to Ohio to only be $13.70, putting it at ONLY $78.70 for a set of HIDs! You can barely even get a set of Silverstars for below $50, and they are even halogens! This price can't be beat...and as with other websites selling the DDMs, they come with a lifetime warranty!

I haven't got my speed 3 yet but I talked with stealership and they said that they would install a pair on. Do you think that's a good idea?

A pair of OEM or aftermarkets? In Canada, there actually are OEM HIDs, so if that's what they would install I wouldn't think twice! Aside from a temperature gauge, this is probably next on the list of things that SHOULD have been standard on any MS3

I am not sure if they are OEM or aftermarkets but I want the 6000k. I will ask the stealership which ones they would install.

I've heard at least 3 people that have gotten 6K bulbs and wish they has gotten either 4300K or 5000K instead. Over prolonged exposure to the light, you're eyes will start to perceive more of the blue then the useful light. However, if you're not looking for maximum useable light, it wouldn't be too bad. Jumping from any halogen to even 4300K will make it look completely white in comparison. Don't undersell the 4000K range if you're looking for useful light!

Just a heads up from my personal findings.

but all you need to do is change the bulb to get the 4300K-5000K right?
