Well I just finished up installing the turboxs DP/RP combo and I thought I would let everyone know how it went and my first impressions.
The install really isn't hard at all, it's just a time consuming process that you have to be patient with. Once you get the stock DP out it is easy as can be after that. I soaked all of the downpipe bolts with pb blaster throughout the process of removing all of the stock heatshields, intercooler, ect. The only time I ran into a problem was for the top o2 sensor. And I guess it wasn't really a "problem" just that I think the only tool I didn't have available to me was an o2 sensor remover tool. Rather than use a 7/8" crow foot (which you can use btw just be careful, o2 sensor is $400) I ran out to autozone and picked up an 02 sensor remover wrench.
Installing the new DP/RP is a easy as heck compared to taking out the stock one. I installed the DP portion first and then installed the RP. All of the exhaust parts mounted up perfectly with very little work required to get anything to go together. The only problem I can see I may run into is that the turboxs bolts are a bit short for where the DP meets the RP and where the RP meets the catback. I used some locktite on those bolts but if they back out, a quick run to the hardware store will solve that problem.
Now for the sound/performance. The sound of this car makes me laugh every time I start it just because it sounds so ridiculous comming from a car like this. During a cold start the idle is LOUD untill the car warms up a bit. After the car is warm you honestly can barely tell the car has any exhaust work at idle. However, touch the gas and the car quickly reminds you it has no cats/resonators/mufflers. As loud as it may be when your getting on it, (its freeking LOUD) cruising in town you can keep it quiet as hell by using the correct gear. On the highway with the cruise set the car is rather quiet too. I would have no problems taking it on a long trip.
I drove the car around for 60 miles or so last night to help the computer get used to the new found air flow/power. Boost seems to build faster and the turbo spools a bit sooner it seems. Power wise there is a noticeable improvement, the car will light the tires up from a roll in second gear if you just stab the gas and it will spin going into 3rd pretty good. What I noticed most is how much harder the car pulls in the upper RPM's.
Overall I am very happy with the purchase. Anyone who is worried about the install should just read over the "how to" on the "other" forum a few times and have at it. It really is not a hard process, just time consuming. I did it on my garage floor in about 5.5 hours and that is with a trip to autozone and a 30-40 min lunch break. The power difference is worth the money you spend and the sound of my car is just awesome. When people give me the (boom04) look, I can't help but smile.
My Cobb AP will be here tuesday so that's when things should get fun
.
If you have any questions at all feel free to ask. Sorry I didn't take any pictures, the howto on the "other" forum is all I used for reference and I think I looked at it maybe 2 times. And I know "this post is useless without vid" but I have no camera right now that won't come out sounding very distorted but I will try and work on getting a better camera.
