so i was looking into purchasing new speakers for myself. What brands out there are a good deal but good quality as well. Also i would like to know which models have good low and mid range sound quality. thank you

are you looking for speakers, or subs?

i have 2 memphis 12s in my hatch, pushed by a memphis competition 200.2 amp. it hits pretty hard. i got the whole setup for a lil more than $600 installed.

i want to upgrade my stock speakers. and add a sub.. all in time i suppose.

edit: what size are our stock speakers?

Has anyone replaced the rear 6 1/2s with component systems? And if so, where did you locate the tweeters?

For the tweeters, most have to cut a hole in the door panels to install them.

I put a set of Alpine R-type speakers in my P5 with a everything else stock. I also put some dynamat around the speakers as well. They sound good, but a amp would help.

I put kenwoods all around on mine. I bought two sets of two size 6 1/2" and the way I located the tweeters was by cutting a small whole just big enough for the wires to fit through in the actual speaker cover on the door panel. The tweeters are about 1" out of the door panel but work fine and it actually looks have decent.

I think I can picture that in my head. They arent at risk of being kicked off by passengers? I was thinking maybe the rear pillars, but not sure if there's enough clearance to flush mount them.

They are potentialy at risk, but mine as fastened on well enough that there would have to be a deliberate kick to them by a passenger. And I dont think there would be enough clearance to have it perfectly flush on the rear pillar.

I don't reccomend going to crutchfield.. or any online store really. Go to a local shop and listen to the speakers yourself. Only you can decide what sounds good, and if the price difference between sets is worth it or not. Also, do a bunch of research in the audio section if you plan on doing it yourself. As for subs... well, do a search for my posts in the audio section and you will see that I feel there is no replacement for dissplacement :)

I'd recommend going with 5 1/4 components in the front. Oval speakers are crap for sound quality. I needed to cut out a template from wood (MDF works) to get the 5 1/4's to mount in the holes in the front. And then I put the tweeters in the sail panels of the doors. Mine are polk audio's. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB5...io+VENDORID107&searchdisplay=Polk+Audio&tp=97 those i think. They sound great, the component tweeters make a huge difference.

Im no newbie to car audio. Just exploring my options for tweeter locations for the P5. Ive out grown subwoofers, just extra weight i don't want and usually in my way when I need to use my trunk... but the stock speakers dont have piss for bass. Sooo I figured if i put 3 ways in the front for clarity and components in the rear for a little extra bass, it might make for nice sound. I already know what speakers i want. Im just stumped on where to put the tweeter in a hatchback. I usually see them in either the side pillar or on the rear door (about where the lock is on the rear door) but in my mind those locations are just too close to the ear. I do like the idea of them on the stock speaker grill... or possibly flush mounting them to it.

Echofall, I posted earlier about mounting it to the stock grill. I am sure you have figured this out, but if you did want to flush mount the tweeters to it you would have to cut the hole large enough to fit them. Then if worst comes to worse and you blow the speakers or something goes wrong with them and you decdie to switch them up and have no tweets you are going to be left with an 1" to 1 1/2" hole in your grill.
