2010 Mazda3 News

I think its like you said, it will probably look good in production form, Im just not digging the model lol

I think it's definitely more attractive, even in my 5 minute MS Paint rendering, with those pillars blacked out.

I put a team of graphic design experts on it, and this is what they came up with. I think you'll be pleased with the results.

:D, much better. I guess the Matchbox sent as a model did not have those details. Mazda does not usually color match the pillars nor window frames, blah, blah, etc.

tghey used pop-up lights on past models, too, but i wouldn't expect that on a new model either. ;)

I looked up pics of the MSP and didn't see anything...I know they had fully painted mirrors though, and most new cars only have the covers painted on them. Other members have pulled the tape off the pillars (yes, its like electrical tape) and found it to be painted underneath.

Back to topic though, that sedan rendering is gorgeous, and I'm not too certain about that hatch, but I might consider one of these when they come out as a DD.

The Mazda3 is widely considered one of the best in its segment, and our spy photographers have spotted the next iteration of the highly-touted sedan. Unlike our previous spy shots, the latest images show the car with virtually no camouflage!

The new Mazda3 will showcase the new styling direction that will eventually spread to the entire Mazda lineup, Laurens van den Acker, Mazda’s design chief, said recently.

Although still covered in a bit of camo, we can see an impressive pair of projector headlamps up front and angled tail lights in back. Overall, once the camouflage comes off, we expect a much more sporty design to be revealed.

From the interior photos, we can see this 3 sedan is packing a 6 speed transmission. That’s one more gear than the current model. We can also see buttons for heated seats, satellite radio and an MP3 hard drive. That probably tells us we’re looking at a Grand Touring sedan prototype.

The new Mazda3 will ride on the next-generation global Ford Focus C1 platform and is expected to be longer and wider than the current model.

Under the hood, Mazda’s MZR line of motors will get a bump in power and further tweaking for fuel savings. Expect the current 2.3L motor to be bored out to around 2.5L. That should give it a 20-30hp bump from the current 156hp rating. The 2.0L base motor probably won’t see an increase in displacement, but a 10 to 15 horsepower increase is likely.

This all new sport compact was originally due to go on sale sometime in the last half of 2009, but will now hit showrooms in the summer of 2009 as a 2010 model year car.

(uhm), now that I see the pics for the 2nd gen Mazda3 or Mazda6: roof mounted antenna (stubby or not), you will be missed (navigation/satellite radio antenna excluded)

the 3 has a 6 speed in the past 3 years in australia and europe

Very nice! The redesign looks to give an already-great-looking car a fresh new look that improves upon the original. I can't wait to see a production model! My girlfriend will be looking for a new car around the time the redesigned Mazda3 is released. The Mazda3 was already at the top of a short list of cars, and I think the redesign will further anchor her decision to Go Mazda!

I'm a little baffled about the C1 platform comment. The Mazda3 has always been based on the C1 platform. I can understand that Mazda may stretch the size a bit, but the way the article phrases it, they make it sound like it was based on the C170 platform that underpins the current U.S. Focus, which is not the case. One of the main reasons I even bothered to test drive the Mazda3 was that I knew it was based on the exemplary C1 platform.
