liking what I see so far! To think it might be quicker than a stock Civic Si! This might be just the ticket for a second car.

All New 2010 Mazda3 Spied by Tourist

Spies got the first good look at the upcoming 2010 Mazda 3. This all new sport compact was originally due to go on sale sometime in the last half of 2009, but will now hit showrooms in the summer of 2009 as a 2010 model year car. Our tourist-shooter, Michael Cervantes, quickly learned that its not easy to shoot prototypes at highway speeds, but his first attempt landed him the most revealing pictures yet of the updated Mazda3. Although we have a bit of 70 mph blur, this is the first time that weve seen this sedan practically uncovered compared to our previous shots.

Riding on Fords global C1 platform, the new Mazda3 will measure in a bit longer and wider than the current model. The sportier-looking Mazda3 will also get a small bump in horsepower as well as a boost in its MPG.

A look inside revealed that this 3 sedan is packing a 6 speed transmission. That's one more gear than the current model. Also visible were buttons for heated seats, satellite radio and an MP3 hard drive. That probably tells us we're looking at a Grand Touring sedan prototype. Under the hood, Mazda MZR line of motors will get a bump in power and further tweaking for fuel savings. Expect the current 2.3-litre motor to be bored out to around 2.5 litre. That should give it a 20 to 30 bhp bump from the current 156 bhp rating. The 2.0-litre base motor probably won't see an increase in displacement, but a 10 to 15 bhp increase is probably a good bet. Watch for an official debut at the LA Auto Show in November.

Looks good except for the lower grill. Looks like the upper portion of it is just plastic with a grill overlay. I hope they change that.

So its gets a little wider and longer? I thought the current 3 was just the right size.

While we are on it. Why no BT-50 in the US????? I just called the dealership and they said "BT what?" Argh!! Would be better with less of a bad 2.5, but still!

Rendered Speculation: 2010 Mazda3 smiles back

Show us the real thing already, damn renderings :D

mazda_3_rendering.jpg

We have an idea of what the next Mazda3 will look like based on some trademark renderings that Mazda supplied the European Union Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market; basically what they amount to are patent drawings. Based on these very rough outlines, somebody named Pascal Boiss from Auto-Motive D&C has created a rendering that gives us a slightly better idea of what the new compact car will look like. The results are a bit mixed, with the fenders and greenhouse meeting our expectations, but that happy-go-lucky front end may be a bit off. Recent spy shots don't show the snout protruding out quite that far. We may see character lines along the door's bottom edge, leading up to the rear arches as the rendering clearly shows. What we know for sure is that Mazda has been getting more expressive with its styling, as the revised 6 and recent concepts prove. We'll see the Mazda3 in person at the upcoming LA Auto Show and here's hoping that it's a bit more refined than the rendering above.

Thats a fine looking small sports sedan! Proportions a lot better than the new 6. Design is still a tad busy but I'd buy one.

I wish it didn't have the front plate on it so we can really see what that lower grille looks like.

Looks pretty sleek, very saturn sky from the front...that's a good thing. I hate dual exhausts, but everyone's doing them now?!??? dont know why. Looks very modern "mazda" like it should. from an exterior standpoint it seems to be a worthy replacement for a fantastic car.
