Boost Gauge

In reality, if you have no plans on upping the boost with a controller then you really don't need one.

About as far from the truth as you can get. A boost gauge is a very good thing to have and EVERY boosted car should have one, because if something fails i want to know if my can starts boosting 30psi instead of stock 18 or so.

Autometer is a great mechanical and i loved it on my msp, easy install and everything

yes but personaly i am going for the defi, but many people on here have the prosport and i haven't really heard any complaints

IF something fails the ECU will go into limp mode. Try again.(hand) There is a reason for boost/fuel cut.(smash)

i've got the defi boost gauge and boost controller and I love it. It actually teach me to drive better by monitoring the boost =p

what is the difference between a mechanical and electric boost guage? I heard the electricals hook up to the boost lines and the only line that runs back through to the cabin is the electric line, I also heard they are more accurate as well.

yeaup ok, and then once you put some kind of controller on there, s*** can go bad. plus boost is somehting you want to monitor in a turboed car, plus monitoring boost to adjust your driving habbits is a great thing also.(I believe someone previously stated this.

But as far as the electrical being more accurate. Yes in a way and it does have its advantages as to install. But unless you want to drop a pretty penny mechanical will suite you just as well.

I have the electric prosport gauge. It was very reasonably priced. The hookup is pretty simple. The sending unit is under the hood. You run a few small wires back into the cabin. The biggest issue is figuring out where you want to mount the gauge.

There are a number of really helpful posts on this install.

There is a value with monitoring your negative vacuum... something your ECU won't tell you unless you have a boost gauge installed.

Read my above post again...after all you quoted it.

On a turbo car (stock boost controlled) a boost gauge can be helpful, but not a necessity.

Anyone know where I can find info on installing an electrical boost guage? Also anyone know of a good deal on a Defi or AEM system? anyone?
