President Bush is not a fiscal conservative. Never has been. Never will be. He's a Republican, he's not a conservative.

Republicans are supposed to be the party of limited govt. But now I can't tell the difference between them and the Dems. Limited govt. cheaper to run, so you don't need to borrow so much, or raise taxes sky high.

Big Govt = bad
High Taxes = bad

Except it's not just Bush. It's the whole party now. Anyone who thinks a republican will keep a smaller gov't in relation to a democrat is living in a dream world.

I haven't heard 1 republican say they want to take over 1/7th of the economy (health care) yet, just democrats.

Still, it would be nice to have a better health care system.

Workers would have much more flexibility in this country if their health care was not so closely tied to their employment. As it stands now anybody who has a chronic or serious illness, or somebody in their family has that illness, is often nailed to their existing job because that pre-existing condition would not let them into another health care plan. Never mind going off to start their own business, where there is no chance in hell they could get coverage. This screws up the labor market in various ways, none of them positive.

I'm all for competition but I just don't see how either of the Dems health care plans is going to work, since they don't cut the parasitic for profit health insurance outfits out of the system. Show me a multimillion dollar health care CEO and I'll show you millions of "health care" dollars being wasted. Older folk may remember there was a time when most of the bigger health care
outfits were nonprofit. Now almost all of them have become for profits.
We paid a lot less for health care then than we do now. Admittedly, not a clear case of cause and efffect.

Just to rant a bit more, the Public Health Service should be able to put out large contracts for the development and production of certain pharmaceuticals. The big pharm companies are all working on developing drugs to treat chronic conditions. Nothing wrong with that, except they
are doing so instead of working on key things like, oh, antibiotics, because those do not make nearly as much money. Public Health requirements are really in conflict with private enterprise on this point, since the public needs a constant supply of new antibiotics (bacteria become resistant to existing ones) but the companies with the resources to develop new ones are not interested. If big Pharm wants to take one of these contracts, fine, but at least if the system was in place it would guarantee that somebody would be working on key drugs.

What I find fascinating about the primaries is that there's three different elections going on if you watch CNN, MSNBC, or FOX.

I used to roll my eyes when right leaning friends said it, but it REALLY is the Clinton News Network. MSNBC is Obama leaning, for the most part (or are they just seeing through Hillary), and FOX is hoping to god they can go against Clinton in the general, after a long, drawn out fight between the two, to weaken both of them.

Which station would you say is giving the best and most balanced coverage?

Which station would you say is giving the best and most balanced coverage?

I don't know that any of them are fully objective. For example; last night:

MSNBC - Interview with Barak Obama, full coverage primary coverage, followed by a documentary on the life of Barak
CNN - Full coverage of the Elliot Spitzer scandal, with far less discussion on the primary (which Barak won).
FOX - Shaun Hannity interviews Mitt Romney

MSNBC did produce documentaries on all of the candidates and I thought the one on McCain was particularly good, but several of the big players on the station are clearly Obama fans. That, of course, I don't mind. ;)

Apparently Olberman is advertising his "Special Comment" on MSNBC tonight, from the sounds of it, he's looking to tear Hillary a new asshole, esp. regarding Ferraro's racist comments lately.

I'm amused.

Yeah, best gaming value in a long time. I picked it up for PC for $25. Portal wins my vote for funniest game and best script and writing of ANY game in 07.

Team fortress 2 is addictive (even though I suck at it) and fun.

I just finished Half-life2 and that game is INCREDIBLE and I'm playing through episode 1 right now. Good stuff.

HL2 rocks...
I love me some Spy for TF2...

And this election just sucks.

Tough call. I've always leaned Republican in the past but with this election it's really in the air. I can't stand McCain after the immigration stuff (amensty, WTF?!). I think Hillary has the best plans for education (killing no child left behind) and tax reform (offering tax breaks to the middle class and breaks to parents with children in higher education) but I can't stand her as an individual. I really can't stand Obama because something about him seems fake, not to mention I hate most, if not all of his plans. Both have similar plans for the war and neither are realistic. Both have similar health care plans - socialized health care, WTF?! Hello, Canada, GB? Obama is a bit nicer to my industry (aerospace) but is still looking to cut back spending and Hillary pretty much plans to kill NASA for at least five years (putting us years behind the rest of the world) and is also planning a massive cut back in military/aviation spending. That is very bad for us aerospace engineers!

So with all that being said I really have no idea who to vote for. Of course almost all of what either is preaching is not going to fly bt Congress but you have to consider it. So far it's picking the lesser of two evils...
