Hid

Well I have a 2007 mazdaspeed 3 sport. I am going to buy HID kits for both fog lights and headlights. So I see that I am supposed to purchase the 9006 bulb kit for the fogs. Do the headlights use H7? Is there such a thing as bi-xenon H7 bulbs? I havent found them. Thanks.

there are no bixenon h7. I think ms3 has halogen highs. But anyways, just treat a HID kit like any other bulb, it does the same thing except it's a lot brighter. This means if your fogs are 9006, then you need a 9006 HID kit for it.

I am pretty sure your Fogs and Highs are both 9006 bulbs. Most people do not
swap out their highs. If you are interested in a kit, PM me, I've got some of both in stock.
And welcome to the forum.

FYI that is NOT correct:

The Lows are H7
The Highs are 9005
The Fogs are 9006

I installed Sylvania Silverstar ULTRA bulbs in the Lows, with excellent results (close to HID)

I also installed Hella Yellow bulbs in the Fogs, with excellent results as well.

I highly recommend yellow fogs, it makes a lot of difference to me.

You mean close to HID as in colour, not in light output...

Go with HIDs dude, you will love em.. Be aware of the HID Police on the forums ( AKA THEMan ) who apparently has followed every rule in life.(jerkit)

No, I meant close to HID in output. They are friggin bright man! At least double the brightness compared with stock, no kidding.

I like HID's too, so you won't see me disagreeing with you on that issue. But, for $50 at your Autozone, the ULTRAS are pretty damn nice. Plus they'll let you return them if you think otherwise. WIN-WIN!

Fourth, for an extra $40, HIDs can be had. Bulbs like silverstars dont last a very long time, so for the price, why dont go all out, you know?

At the time, I only had a budget of about $100 for the entire lighting setup to get me through a long road trip. But in the future I'll go to HID I think... It was far more important to upgrade at the time. The ULTRA's have impressed, to say the least. Way, WAY better and supposedly more durable then Silverstar standard, yet brighter at the same time. I'm not a fan of just bulb upgrading, but this time around it paid off. The fogs were the same thing...good upgrade from stock to Hella Yellows.

Look forward to hearing about your next lighting mod. Hit me up, i can give you some insight and what direction to go and what vendor to choose (thumb)

So my apexcone ddm slimline hid kit came in today for the headlights and fogs. The installation was very simple. I didnt take off the bumper or anything. It was a little difficult to get the bulb in and out on the battery side; the dust cap is close to the fuse box. For the fogs, the o-rings needed to be swapped because the o-rings on the new bulbs were too large. It wouldnt go in all the way.

Do you have any install pics?

Then they must completely blow away the original Silverstars. The only Halogens I've heard of that can sniff HID output are the HIR bulbs that Vipers run with. And they are about as expensive as HID's.

It's tricky to photograph, but I'll try some day to get pics of the light level.

They aren't HIR's (Toshiba technology,...neat stuff you can buy at the same place I bought my yellow Hellas), but the Silverstar ULTRAS are good. Granted, I'd love HID's but for $50 it was a good option.

HIR's are pretty sweet, too.

dgraf do they just plug in to the oem slots, just wondering cus im thinking of buying a hid kit for like 130 from ebay.

yes they do plug straight into the oem plugs. it is a very simple install. The hardest part is finding a nice flat surface to stick the ballasts to. Or actually, exchanging the headlight bulbs because of the spring holder. It's a bit tricky at first to reinstall, but simple afterwards. If you know exactly what to do it shouldn't take anymore than 20-30minutes to change out the headlight bulbs. I hope you dont have huge hands because it's a small area behind the headlights.

I found some easy spots to place my ballast. I've got a 50w kit and a 35w kit (4 ballast total).

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks the stock fog lights on these things are a joke. I have a GT, so I have no complaints about the headlights, though.

Fourthmeal, what wattage can you install in the fogs? I found a site that states that with a minor modification to the bulb base, you can put in a 9012 in the mount intended for a 9006. How would this work in the MS3 fogs?

Review the lumens comparison at the top of the page then scroll to the bottom of the page for the 9012 description.
