Mazda Protege 02' LX
Hey guys, I have an 02' protege and I'm trying to basically figure out what is the best set-up regarding new struts and springs. I want a pretty significant drop and I am wondering what set-ups have benefited you all most. Right now I'm most strongly concidering Illumina's with either espilir springs or skunk2 coilovers, but if you have better suggestions I would strongly appreciate it.

hey i love how the tien s techs lower the pro. got them sitting in the garage about to be put on.

illuminas and espilers or teins will be a good set-up. don't go too low, or your ride quality / handling will suffer.

Thanks for your input, I looked at tein's but i heard those were more for track, I will probly either go tein or espelir though thanks for the help.

Coilovers are pretty much for track work. Tein S-Techs are fine for a street car. You'll do fine with Espelirs, too. Both are excellent. Just pick your favorite color--blue or green? :)

haha from what everyone has said i figured thats basically what it came down to; choosin by color(doh)

the largest non-airbag drop I have seen on a protege to date is a 3" drop using the skunk2 coilover system.

i heard skunk2 is horrible...

i have illuminas, s-techs, racingbeat rear swaybar and delsing brackets.
i can keep pace (if not beat) my friends in their evos in the canyons but that may be because i'm a better driver too =P

i have the rear mazdaspeed sway and AXR rear clunk fix brackets too, but i'm running the tokico HP handling kit. if i was to do it over again, i would go with the illuminas and teins. the tokico springs are close to the same rate as the teins, but the rear sits a little lower than i might have liked. when i get some people in the back seat, or load some gear into the trunk, the rear sits lower than the front.

yeah I was pretty set on illuminas, and I hadn't really heard anything good about skunk2's, which is why I asked.

I have the Tokico HP with Eibach Pro-kit springs, with the AWR rear sway bar. I love the struts and the springs, but the sway bar is a bit to noisy for my liking but it does get the job done.
