I am getting mine next week and man, they are not cheap. I have been quoted from anywhere from $289 to $369. Anyone found one cheaper than that?

Have you tried contacting your insurence company. I know here in florida if you have full coverage your insurence company has to replace it at no cost to you or at least thats how I understand it.

Usually this falls under the "incidental damage" or something like that clause in your contract. They also usually waive the deductible on incidents such as these. In a similar situation, my father in law had his garage door come down on the roof of his pickup truck causing some paint and minor body damage. The insurance picked up 100% of the cost and promised him his rates would not go up because of the claim.

i've put 3 in... make sure they prime well after they cut out the old one! Trust me.

I'm just curious--are you guys talking about a Protege5? If so, why is this in the Mazda5 section?

I am pretty sure the original post was about a Mazda5.. I could just relate since I had several put in my P5. And I wanted to warn people of the rust that could occur.. :)

main reason I asked was because I've noticed Protege5 posts in here before and I was never really sure whether it was a case of mistaken identity or whether cross-posting was possible and allowed.

In any case, I've replaced the windshield once on my Protege and while it's been a few years, I think it was closer to $200. This means $289-$369 sounds slightly high to me for a Protege, but low for a 5 based on the posts that I've seen. No rust on my Protege, fortunately.
