2008 WRX vs. 2007 MS3 by Inside Line Video

Wow...what a huge difference in body roll through the slalom. Don't know about you guys, but when I see the WRX hatch from 20 paces, I think Kia Spectra 5 with a hood scoop. Not a hatchback fan but Mazda does it better than anyone else.

Edmunds seems to love the ms3. Every review they run it comes in first place. Love their videos, do a good job making the car look good.

i can hang with an sti as long as we are alreading rolling, the sti can't even pull and inch ahead, its bumper to bumper. same with the bmw m3

I slaughtered an M3 from a dig.. They arent that fast... esp since were 1/2 the psi through 1st and second. Top end you will really kick their ass if you have mods.

What I love is surprising idiots who tail me on the highway.. Slow down a little, downshift, floor it and off we go, they are out of my trunk!! Though it's more fun to drive fast *with* another MS3, etc.

Nice videos..

I have to take you to task on the slaughtering an E46 from a dig. Matter of fact, I'll have to do the same for suggesting that the S3 'will really kick their ass on top end if you have mods'....what mods?

The E46 should run a mid-13 without a heavily experienced driver, which is .5 seconds faster than our S3. I've driven quite a few and that SMG launch is absolutely no joke. The S3 stands no chance...

WELL I must say this ms3 is very quick car. I have a buddy who has a civic 2dr with a rsx type s motor in it tuned dyno to the wheel 212 hp. and we raced last week 2nd gear roll i jumped out 2 cars on him and kept it until 5th gear when we let off at about 100 mph. then we raced 3rd gear roll and same out come. This car is impressive to me I had a 03 msp with alot of work done to it and sold it for this car. I love it. Also i raced a neon from a dead stop and it wasn't close had him by over 4 cars after 4th gear. So i must say it will get the wrx in the long run.

Haltech should be beating the m3 in top end with those mods. Slaughtering off launch? Maybe not if its a good driver. But I would believe it...

Well, i guess either you havent learned how to drive your S3 or your bone stock. I have no problem with M3s. I have friends that have M3s and one who has a M6.. SMG sucks compared to a 6 speed, sorry, but its the truth. I really like that second gear clunk they got there including the bog. M3s dont fly until you get them up to 65 on the freeway. S3 does stand a chance, learn how to drive your car...

And you apparently haven't seen SMG in launch mode. I do not care how well you think you drive your S3.. it stands no chance against an E46 SMG in launch mode.
There is no bog and that tranny shifts before you can fully depress the clutch pedal on your S3..
It sounds to me like somebody doesn't know how to drive the E46.
Are you sure your buddy has an E46? An E36 is no problem..but, the E46 is a completely different animal.

The speed3's are quick and a riot to drive, but let's be realistic...

Subaru is fugly

Well, I guess we don't have to worry about the new 2008 WRX having an edge over us after all. MS3 rules!!!

www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/ViewModelDetail/make=Mazda/model=MAZDASPEED MAZDA3#2

There is also the 2007 video of there compact shoot out that we ruled on this page.

Gotta love the MS3!

IMO Even if the Subaru did better the MS3's performance, the MS3 is wayyyy better looking. More muscular, more aggressive and more classy-looking. The Subaru looks like it should be a set piece on a low budget sci-fi flick.

I think the whole AWD craze is overrated anyway. A good pair of snows coupled with the Mazda traction control should do 90% as well as the Sub AWD. All I see AWD doing is making bad drivers worse by instilling a false sense of security. I live in MA and have had both AWD/4WD (Honda Pilot, Nissan Patherfinder) and front wheel drive (6 Mazdas) and with a good set of snow tires (and judicious use of throttle) the Mazdas handled snow without any issue. I actuallu saw more difference with tires. The Pilots came from the factory with horrible Goodyear Integritys which were downright dangerous in wet and snow.

Now from a performance off-the-line standpoint AWD may have a slight edge, but unless your drag racing is it really worth the extra cash? IMO of course.

I am being realistic.. You act like all SMGs work without a hitch.. I have seen smg in launch mode.. its not all what youre making it out to be.. have you actually ever been in a real fast car before? I drive several... if you need some driving tips, come on down and ill teach you how to drive your S3 like a red headed step child. Its all in the launch first of all and powershifting the tranny.. And.. im not stock.

In the snow awd owns but why the hell would you want to drive a sports car in the snow?? Except awd dounuts are pretty freckin sweet, but other then that, screw driving in the snow. Your car just gets nasty and you chance getting hit by some idiot. Even when I had awd I hated driving in the snow, and personaly I don't like how awd handles. Not saying fwd the best but an awd isn't either.

+1 on awd being good if you drag race a lot. Other then that and snow it's just more drivetrain loss..
