WTB: protege trunklid springs (no wing)

I'm going wingless on my MSP, and after removing the wing I realized the trunklid springs are way too strong for a wingless trunklid! When I accidentally use the trunk popper in the cabin, I'm always afraid the trunk lid is going to fly off the hinges and through my rear window, it opens so hard... lol

So I'm looking to purchase someone's springs from a wingless trunklid.

Go to a tire store and see if you can purchase a few strips of one ounce stick on wheel weights and adhere them to the bottom side of the trunk lid somewhere inconspicuous.
 
hehe.... call me a ricer, but I'd rather just not use the trunk popper than go sticking lead weights in my car. Especially since that would kill my only practical (if barely) justification for replacing my hail-damaged trunklid with a CF piece.
 
there are 2 springs currently right? just remove one of them, that should do the trick...(crosses fingers)
 
Not a bad idea.... The only possible drawback I could see is if the trunklid didn't like the torsion of only having one spring on there, but I can't see that being a problem. I'll give it a whirl tonight
 
Nope... I'm not in desperate need yet, so I thought I'd post here first and see if the springs come to me, lol

sorry buddy, I just got the correct springs for my winged lid... but threw away the old ones... (who would need these anyways??) Oops
 
Out of curiosity, how did it work using the non-wing springs on a winged trunklid? Did the lid pop open at all when you hit the release?
 
It opened, but there was not a lot of help from them getting the lip up.... And the lid would shut from a small breeze and destroy things half in/out of the trunk... groceries, yard plants, babies... well maybe not all of those... but you get the idea that it was a pain in the booty.
