wiring harnesses, removal tools, and pockets

where is the best place to find these items? ill probably buy most of my stuff from www.etronics.com cause its the cheapest by far, but they dont carry harnesses or pockets. also, ive tried to make my own removal tools like sir nuke explained, but had little luck, and would rather spend the 5 bucks on tools. any suggestions? i need both the regular and reverse harness (scosche), the removal tools, and the pocket to fit a DIN sized head into.

I don't believe the tool made by Sir Nuke are commercialy made or available.
Sounddomain.com should have the harnesses.

i didnt mean that the ones he made were avaliable, i meant that i tried to make them from coat hangers as he did and failed. instead id like to buy some, because if i remember correctly there are radio removal tools that will do the trick here. maybe im wrong? sorry for the confusion.

The style of tool he made are not commercialy available to my knowledge, nothing even close to it. I could be wrong but I just haven't seen them yet.

ok, then is there anything out there to aid in the removal of the stock radio? also, i checked sounddomain, and they have the harness but not the reverse harness, which i need if i want to use the stock HU and not cut wires.
thanks for stickin with me man

No problem.
The into radio peice is fairly new so some people may have it but not have it listed yet. Any real vendor should be able to order it.
This site has it though:

You also may want to consider using the full dash kit instead of the pocket since it seems to be easier to install as you don't have to make a radio support.

The is no manufactured radio removal tool.

I might have missed it in the thread, but you can use 2 sets of Ford Radio style removal tools. Did anybody suggest that?

yeah thats what i used...well actually, i used one set, cut them in half, had my brother get one side, and i got the other....

i bought mine at crutchfield, but ive seen them at autozone. gl

Might be able to buy some thin metal and bend your own. Coat hangers maybe to flimsy.

well i just got some of those and cut them in half and tried them, they are too thick to fit in the holes :( time for plan b. which i will think of shortly.

I don't understand why your having a problem and why you cut them in half??? We are talking about a factory double DIN Protege radio, right? I used 2 sets of ford style radio removal tools and the damn thing slid right out. Shed a little more light on the subject for me, I just don't see why your having so many problems.

yes. factory double din radio. the tools i got were for a din radio, because i am not aware of any made for a double din radio, so in their form they would not do any good because they are half as long as they need to be to fit from one hole in the bottom of the radio to one in the top. also, the actual rod was too thick and would not even fit into the hole.

Well, our 2002 had four holes on each side of the radio. I used 2 pairs of the keys and pushed them into the holes. You wanna make sure that you don't push them in too far because it will spring the retainers out too far and they will not release. Then you just kinda pry outward on them as you pull. I dunno, maybe they changed the radio design??

ok, actually, I just went out and looked at the radio and there are actually three holes on each side, one is kinda oblong. This hole will take the bottom pin of one set of keys and the top pin of the other.

my radio is exactly the same way, and i now understand how ya did it but my tools did not fit into the holes. too thick. maybe bad tolerance control at the schosche factory? or maybe i got a different brand of tools?

You may or may not have been directing that towards me but...

Yea, I have seen that post before and I don't think those tools are not the appropriate method. Although they may work, they do not pull the center clips in far enough to let them safely clear the plastic dash opening (i.e. they could scratch the dash as the radio slides out). Hey YAY FOR CARS, having a couple of sets of those radio tools around is never a bad idea. There are a ton of cars that require them to remove the radio and you could someday be a friends hero for having them and besides, I would have spent $30 to avoid some of the frustration that you must be experiencing. Just my .02
