Radar Detector

umm lately i've been looking at a nice decent radar detector... so far the only two that i think its not bad are : Escort Passport 8500 and Valentine 1... so which one do u guys have? and if u have to choose.. which detector would u guys choose?

I would choose the valentine one
A: it tells you where the cops are
B: it tells you how many cops there are
C: its range is a hell of alot better

the speed limit is just a sugestion, I try and aim for double, I'de go faster but my geo tops out at 110

v1 hands down. i've run top line bels and passport/escort. when comparing v1..there is no substitute.

umm still no one supporting the escort? coz i've been to couple sites and they all like the 8500 more than valentine so far...

Do do a search this EXACT thread has already been done. It was like 5 pages too.

actually i Have the escort passport 8500, and this radar is the best radar out on the Market even beating the valentine one of a score 97 and the Valentine one 77. The only reason the valentine one had a higher score than the escort passport 8500 this year was because the valentine detects which where the radar detects from showing the arrows of which direction it's coming from, rather than that" also the Valentine one posted 14falses on detects which scored lower than a cobra. The escort was the least that falsed and detected 2miles down the road. Honestly some guy posted that when he first got his passport 'he went to go test it out and it started buzzing down the road and he was wondering where it was coming from, then he said 7miles later down a straight long road there was a cop sitting down the side. But i don't know cause it's only supposed to detect 2miles down the road but seems to me like, it detects more than 2miles cause every time i leave the navy base here in lemoore i get signals heading down 198 and it just starts beeping and beeping. (BING- right down the road across from me heading down the road i start to see the highway patrol heading towards me the opposite direction. If you need another answer ask Linux he'll tell ya also. I also have the RMR C-302 which is the rocky moutain radar, but the RMR is not even accurate like the escort is and i feel safer being aware on the road with the passport.;)

Make sure to add the ZR3 laser shifter to either the SR7 or the 8500

And the direct wire. I just installed my direct wire last week, and don't have to use that damn Cigarette lighter plug anymore. It cost $10 + shipping from the Esscort Website.

On the performance of the Passport, it has more than paid for itself. I turned off the X band, and with it off, there is almost no falsing at all. The X band is a old band used still in small rural towns, but drives you crazy in the city due to damn automatic doors. The range of the escort is so good. I can remember being more than a mile away, and geting a signal. Sure enough, it was a popo on the bridge up ahead. Since having the 8500, by the grace of God, I haven't received any legitamate radar enforced tickets. For the $100+ difference of the V1, it isn't worth it to me. All you get with the V1 are the arrows. I don't roll without mine at all.

Passport 8500 here, had a 7500. The false hits with the V1 (had before 7500) are just unbeleivable. It sucks. Who cares if there's arrows if they're pointing at s*** that isnt there? lol
Also, the safety network (which we have in parts of IN) works better in a passport than a V1. I'm sure the V1 has to have it, but you wouldnt believe how much info the passport picks up. I dont even need to check the traffic in the morning. I just get on the road and the passport tells me where the hotspots are, and which exits are the least crowded.
s***, I love it for the ambulance alert alone.

Strange, I never have picked up the SWS alerts. I know I have the feature. Did you have to turn this feature on or is it just the area I live in?

Escort Passport 8500. I haven't yet had the time to run my Smart Cord/hardwire yet.

looks like everybody likes the 8500... wut about the Solo S2... do those 2 have exact same feature or less than 8500... coz if its same.. i'd rather spend that 30 bucks to make the car looks more clean

I just bought an 8500, it can't be beat for the price and performance. I wanted a V1 but went through all the reviews and this is the best thing on the market right now.

Solo S2 has a little less range than the 8500. I spoke with Escort about it.

SWS alerts are a function of usually state DOT's. Indiana has had them up in Gary (by Chicago) and in parts of Indianapolis for a while. By 2004 the whole damn state is going to be wired for them. As for emergency vehicle light ups (when an ambulance is coming up a side street, say) that is a function often of individual departments, municipalities, or townships, unless of course there is some state mandate to do so.
There may be a feature on the 8500 to turn them on. Just hold down both buttons to get the setup menu, and scroll through. I cant remember if it's something I turned on or not. Check with your state DOT (look in the blue pages) and ask. You should also be able to go to the state DOT website and hunt around. Perhaps the best and quickest source is to call your Highway Patrol/State Trooper/ State Police (diff names, same purpose) agency. They are usually the ones who help to implement it, as it often goes along with the other traffic related and emergency work they do (I recently started work for Indiana State Police).
