LOL @ crap-awareness

bgi, the scanner is decent I get about 4Hz refresh rate - this means it can send about 4 data numbers in one second. Honestly, the only thing it lacks is reading the freeze-frame data. And software, but that's why we have the internet.
You can read codes, clear CELs, see real-time data as MAF, LTFT, STFT, throttle pos, timing advance(?), rpm, speed, both O2 sensor instantenous voltages, intake air temperature and in fact the device itself supports any PIDs if driven properly by software.
It needs a driver to emulate a serial bus over USB which works fine on vista. Being a geek, I'm using it with a modified version of a freeware program called scantool which can log to a file which can be imported into excel to create graphs in an attempt to diagnoise my extreme fuel consumption problems (~16MPG last check). No luck so far but.. meh.
Honestly I think it's a steal, it does what other 200+ handheld scanners do - that is - if you have a portable comp.

It took about 3 weeks to arrive. If you choose the low cost + high shipping ebay combination, you rule out customs charges & delays so that's a plus. Sorry, I notice you're from US so scratch that.

^^ whas that a long off-topic post or what? SRY

Scanned

So i went to a bud's house and got it scanned. It came up with a EGR code, i haven't pulled it off but i'm suspecting that it needs a good cleaning. AS well for s**** and giggles i pulled off the PCV valve and gave it a shake, No rattle. So i bought a new part $2 nice and cheap.

I'm going to change the valve and clean the EGR this weekend weather permitting. I'll keep you updated and will post the codes as soon as i can locate the beer case i wrote them on.

Well i finally got off my lazy ass and was able to get the EGR vavle off and cleaned. When i took it apart the damn thing was stuck open and the spring was stiff. I cleaned it out good and proper like a good coffee cleans us out in the morning.

Lubed up the shaft (god that sounds bad) and reinstalled the part. Car runs as good as new. In the process hoever i broke a clamp for my intake hose. Should have those at local hardware store.

As for the whining sound i swear there is a pig in my car somewhere. I checked the belts and they are fine, i'm beginining to think its one of my pulley's. Any way to check thsoe without pulling them off?

Any by the way, thank you everyone for your help. I now dont look like a douche at stop lights having everyone wanting to race me. One guy tried and stalled his car off the line. I almost hit a light post i was laughing so hard.

pull the belts off and spin the pulleys....you can tell if any are bad....

they should spin smooth like buttah.....if not then bad bearing

i do believe one of my belts is squeaky at idle what do i do rub belt greese on it or isnt there a aerosol belt quiet or somthing like that??

I've used belt quiet before, but it doesn't last forever. tightening the belts should work a little better and be more permanent.

same problem with the squeaking. seems like it only happens at around 850-1000 rpms when idling. belts are tight. if it is one of the bearings, how hard it is to replace?
