Magnus/Ion vs local muffler shop

srd555 - to answer your questions:

(1) yes an extra O2 bung for those who'll be having their cars tuned w/ a WB O2 sensor.

(2) As of this point in time, we won't be using a flex-pipe, as we've found that they leak. We have another method to introduce some give into the system which also creates a good seal.

(3) Yes our "down-pipe" (S-pipe and down-pipe) will include ceramic coating.

As for us making a 2.5" down-pipe & cat section, well, it will be highly improbable. However since you're having a custom cat-back made, you could have them use a 3" flange on the end where the mid-pipe meets the cats. Our pieces will end in the stock locations (except the s-pipe/down-pipe), so you could have the flange modifed to accept the 3".

For our system, we're not going to have the "N1" style tip or anything, it's going to be about 3.5"-4" tops OD.

Thank you, Jack is it ?

So I'll just wait for the pics and the sound reports. If its too loud would you be willing to customize the resonator and or muffler for me?

I am also curious about a few of the questions ForceFed asked. But my two cents about the whole issue is that you get what you pay for. Obviously the Ion and Magnus systems are better, why spend 240 bucks on some piece of s*** pipes that are not SS and not mandrel bent. We own a good quality car, might as well put a good quality product on it. If money is that much of a problem save up for a while. You obviously have some money, you own a MSP. I wouldnt go and in my opinion ruin my car by putting on a exhaust system like that just to save a little.

Matt

POS PIPES?(spank)
i got my quote for mandrel bent piping, they dont bend them but they have mandrel peices they use, and their ss piping.
if a shop can do it for you for a price like 250 or even 300 and you dont have the money for a 1000 dollar set up then .
or you can get a few other performance mods with the rest of the money, if you had a 1000 to spend.
if you can tell me how would performance differ if you have 3" ss piping and mandrel bent done by a local shop as to magnus or ion id be and others would be convinced?

srd555 - yes it's Jack.

As for the sound, we offer basically 3 sound preferences: quiet, medium and loud.

They different in the type of material and amount used for sound suppression. The quiet & medium acoustic preference has a resonator, the loud doesn't.

DiscreetSpeed - if you've got a local shop that's well known and has a good reputation for fabrication, then you could give it a shot.

The one thing that most fabrication places don't look at are both the wave & fluid mechanics associated with exhaust gas pulses. An optimized path for both the wave and fluid characterics allows maximum extraction of power. Also, depending on the tuned length, sound can be adjusted.

This right here is the single best thing I've heard.

Pics as soon as possible please. :D

the shop i asked was just for what the magnus system is just from the downpipe.
it would be awesome if the exhaust from from before the s bend back.
ion- are you guys doing the s bend or a 90 degree bend, either way im sure you guys will get nice gains with a wider diameter. sweet!

Well in response to iON...

I did not post this to try to dis-credit iON in any manner.
I want all forum members to know this.I merely stated what I saw and what I know.
I am totally for any advancement in the MSP or PRO community whether it be by myself, quiktsi,iON,Spool ,or any other vendor for that matter.I merely wanted to see what Jack had to say to a few of my questions.
I did not do it as spam ,but rather an easy way to get all my questions in one post. Why up my post count for no reason.

For anyone who thought I was making a personal attack on iON,
YOU WERE WRONG!
I just know the right questions to ask sometimes to ease my mind and get the other members more informed.

I have never downed any vendors parts on here ,UNLESS,I know for a "FACT" that the claims they are making are false.NO WHERE in my post did I dis-credit iON.I merely asked a few questions to try to get a grasp on where are all the products that are in "DEVELOPMENT"?

I hope that I made my intentions of my first post clear in this one.
iON also did not make an "ATTACK" back at me,but rather they just responded to my questions.
iON does have some of the quickest and best responses to peoples questions when asked.I will say that there info is nothing but the best.I am merely trying to look out for all members on this board who will spend there hard earned dollars on the simple typed words of a company. All of your choices will prob be based off of info that you will read on this forum. And in that respect you should definately do your research and ask questions before spending you greenbacks.

I hope i have now made my intentions clear,
Matt;)

i have "northeast" emissions...would 1 cat be sufficient to pass or is basically any full exhaust outta da question?

My apologies then to you, Matt, for responding in the way that I did. Everyone has a different style, and I read yours wrong.

Peace...(hippy)

ForceFed - no hard feelings :)

SpicyRay - depends on whether you need to pass a visual. The hi-flow cats we use pass the US Federal and Canadian Federal emissions requirements no problems.

If you don't have a visual to do, then you're good to go, as the system will even pass the tight sniff test by CARB.

My sincerest apologies as well. I think that my reaction was keyed to the fact that these vendors/ manufacturers need our support and any hostility-- (now we understand that your intentions were not hostile)-- towards them could drive them away and inturn opportunities would be missed by all.

It's funny when you write something out, it sounds a certain way to you, yet to others it is the total opposite. And the unfortunate part is here in a forum personalities are a little hard to read.

Discreet,

First of all I was not talking about SS pipes and mandrel bends, I was talking about the crush bends and so on. If you can find a shop that will do all that work for you, from the turbo back, with a downpipe and everything for around 300 bucks then good for you. I had a shop do an exhaust on my old car and it sounded great, but the work they did on it was bad. I will not go through paying 450 bucks for s*** work by a shop. I would rather have something of quality. You still get what you pay for. Plus are you sure that everything this shop would be doing is mandrel bends and all SS piping. Never know, could be riping you off. But to each his own, I just had a bad experience with a shop before.

Matt

Ion is there an ETA for the Turbo back exhaust? I know that it takes time....I was just wondering what your goal is of releasing it.

Thanks

Cirielle - how coincidental that we just saw your post :) your significant other just called us on the phone about this for you. I'm sure he'll pass you on the details you require :) Feel free to send us an email for more info.

The pre-sale for the systems will start in ~ 1week. Our expected shipping date is ~6-8 weeks time (this is a realistic schedule) as we've got several other cars to finish for a shoot-out over in the UK (1 R33 Skyline, 1 R34 Skyline and 1 EVO 6.5)

Damn its going to take 6 to 8 weeks to be shipped? I guess I am going to have to look for a different system for my car now. That really seems like a long time.
