jic-magic flt-a2's making a noise...

so i noticed that a couple days ago, a slight tapping or knocking is coming from my right rear. i thought maybe it was the jackstand hitting against the outside bodywork, but it wasn't.

so i'm wondering if possibly maybe i need to retighten all the upper strut bolts on my coilovers? maybe one came slightly lose and small road movements are having it move every so slightly to make a tapping noise on the frame?

its not bad. its not loud. its quite faint. (yes, i have supersonic hearing, ask most of my friends...i notice the craziest audible distortion and oddities all the time.) i checked everything underneath, and it doesn't seem like its and endlink or something else clunking. its not harder or louder when i take bumps on the road. i usually notice it while on very flat, straight surfaces...i can hear it knocking just a little bit on small bumps...like its lose enough to keep its momentum up and tap a few times, then it goes away.

i'm going to tear off the rear panel tonight and see if i can tighten all the upper bolts on the jic's. if thats not it, i'll probably make sure that all the coilover seats are tight and nothing has come lose.

if neither of these solve it, any suggestions as to what it might be? perhaps the swaybar? worse?

i know my buddy here in clinton twp has them on his mp3 and his pillow ball mounts make the noise when the top not is loose. Put a wrench on that top nut and tighten it up and your problem should go away.

this problem was discussed b4. look in the p5 section under tokico blues troubles. u need to add a washer to the top of the strut under the 17mm bolt. try do a search. gl!

peace

what a ******* weird issue...the washer is upside down, and it makes that much ******* noise?

retarded. looks like i'll be busy tomorrow then.

thanks everyone!

washer is upside down? no no, u have to ADD a washer over the metal plate looking thing so its between that and the 17mm nut. peace

in the tokico troubles thread i read, it mentioned that one of the washers is concaved, and you have to have it the right way or it'll rub and make that tapping noise.

maybe there's dual troubles.

secondly...

the coilovers don't have anything to do with knocking struts. it should be all in the assembly and never touched, from my understanding. this is coming from something else.

This shouldn't apply to the JIC's, completely different setup.

nothing? no? nobody?

k...

i'mma go explore the nether-regions of my coilovers and see what i can deduce. hopefully i return with good news.

unless someone has an answer...(doubtful)...

welp...simple fix.

took everything apart, took the rubber cap off that covers where the strut comes in to the bodywork inside the trunk, tightened the top bolt, and voila...fixed.

gonna do the other three corners tomorrow just to be safe.

there's your fix, if anyone else has this problem with jic coilovers, or any other coilover for that matter.

oops my bad, heh, sorry dude

hope everything is fine now, peace
