How to go about finding and buying a MSP from the Southern US when I live in Canada..

Okay so I couldn't really find an appropriate title for this thread so I hope the right people/person comes and reads it. I had a P5 a few months ago that I sold in hopes of buying a Mazdaspeed Protege. At the time I wanted one really badly and was willing to deal with buying one from Canada where rust was going to a main issue. I am now glad I didn't though. This is obviously a unique issue because most people dont go looking for a Protege this hard, unlike a collector car. Second, with all the scams out there I dont want to get ripped off and most people on autotrader will think its a joke someone in Canada wants there MSP. Yeah I could buy from a person on here but most of the cars are modded in some way and I was hoping for one with a clean slate. At the end of the day its just a Protege but does any one had any thoughts on the matter of how to go about this?

check with the motor vehicle department first, to see if there are any logistical considerations that need to be made when purchasing a car from the US. when you are good with that, just start trolling autotrader. if you find a car that you like, see if you can contact a local on the forums to check it out for you.

You can also try Craigslist as I have found many in my surrounding states around Arizona. Some modded and some stock. Put up a WTB here in the forum if you haven't already done so.

Word man. I understand. Def needs some work it was just something I saw.... Personally, IVE NEVER PAID RETAIL, you'll never buy a "perfect" car it'll always need work. And people drastically over price repairs. You can find one for 7k$ (that'll need repairs too), or find a cheaper one for 4k, save 3k$ cuz of a broken 50$ tail light.......

While I agree, I also dissagree. That car is not a MSP, its a turboed MP3 with Mazdaspeed badging. Unless someone went to the trouble of changing thier 03.5 wing and not having the front lip and putting orange turn signal markers in the fenders, its possible but I doubt it. There is no rear lip either which would help determine. That is why I am thrown off lol

I would actually rather buy a MSP from the Southern US with a blown head gasket or similar issue for the exact reason you state. Its way cheaper and for an afternoon of my time I can a running car with no rust which is impossible to find up here.

Um? There's 2 MSP. That's on 03 like mine. 03 wing, 03 doesn't come with lip, comes with fogs, Looks pretty stock. Has FMIC. Probably changed sidemarkers to "match" and clearly says "needs rear bumper"/lip... Just saying......

Also you might wanna rethink that..... Head gaskets a lot more than you think dude. Simple to do but did you blow a valve? Smash a piston? Warp the head? Blow the water pump? Not to mention it'd suck to find out its worthless after traveling from Canada....

the 03 MSP was only available in black and orange. the 03.5 was available in silver, titanium, yellow, and blue. its also way overpriced for the condition. i wouldn't offer more than $2000 for that thing. it will likely need a new motor soon, judging from the looks of it.

That's true it is yellow. Idk only way to find out is ask the guy but either way.... YOUR CRAZY 2K$ IS COMPLETELY DISRESPECTFUL, no matter the condition. Unless motor is completely blown. are you SURE its not yours? it has rear end damage, non-standard wheels, aftermarket exhaust, and shows a front mount in the pictures. with no idea of the interior condition, or what other mods are done to it, i would go there with the intention of paying no more than $2k. I looked and looked until I found my STOCK one because I didn't want a modified one. I had intended to leave it stock, but I couldn't drive the damn thing stock- heat soak on the IC was horrible, so I got a FMIC. Then fuel-cut issues, so I got the SSAFC. And so on and so on. I have every single stock part, so when the time comes, I'll put it back to factory specs.

Ive seen trailer queens backed into in the driveway. 10 miles on fresh paint lol s*** can happen... Not to mention worst thing to hear is ..... ill five you 2000 for it, AAAFTER spending 10,000$... then again I like to Polish turds and do full rebuilds cuz I'm a noob, and just cuz I install parts means nada.
