CX-9 Analog to Digital Instrument Cluster Retrofit

:
2016 Mazda CX-9
Hey everyone,

So as you guys may already know, I have a 2016 CX-9 with the analog instrument cluster. I am considering upgrading to the digital cluster, but need clarity on compatibility.

Is this a direct plug and play swap, or does it require programming with a scan tool?

Has anyone completed this retrofit and can share their experience?

Thank you,
Shawnee

Yes, it's possible. I've done a 2019 Cx-5 cluster swap from type B to type A (7" LCD) using Forscan. Everything works, it's not hard to do. It requires to save your car IC data, do the swap, load and write it to the donor cluster.

My only concern with Cx-9 would be the extra plug used for the third row indicators. There is also an issue with the odometer. Miles/Km run from the donor's car are stored in the instrument cluster, so you will need to address it.
