Break in.

What's the proper way to break this car in? I've never owned a turbo car before. I will hopefully have my car this Tuesday and I don't mess it up.

Pretty much all newer cars don't need a break in period, but if you want to just either
a) Drive easy for 500-1000 miles.
b) Drive it like you plan to drive it if you want to use this car for racing or autocross or whatever.

Check the manual. It pretty much says that no special break-in is needed, but you might want to take it easy for the first 600 miles.

considering you had enough sense to post about break in, i dont think you want to do the stupid "drive it like you want to drive it later on." plus, this logic is coming from t3ase with his 23923029 problems, you know you dont want to do that. =)

Take it easy first 600 miles at least. i went 1000. vary the rpms the whole time, dont keep it at a certain speed the whole time. dont go over 65. gradually start increasing at higher RPMs as you get higher in miles.

Check out the manual. Basically it says do run the car at high RPM for an extended period of time. Don't drive 3 hours away going 100 all the way. Vary the rpm. Drive it like you normally would.

i say break it in until 600, no going over 65, high rpms, just normal driving. No boosting until 1000miles

this whole break-in period is a product of the times before CNC machining and when you had to have lead in your gas to fill gaps around the valve guides.

the tolerances are uber close now, so drive it like you want to.

My service department said take it easy for the first 100 miles, so the engine internals have time to seat, after that have fun.

that is where i was born! at Cobb County Hospital back in 1980.
my dad was stationed at Dobbins AFB and we moved to Fl in may of '81.

i'm gonna be in ATL 9/13 to see the falcons romp the redskins. i cant wait!

like what II-savy said just vary your speeds and don't try to race anybody for about 650 miles. i would also recommend going over 65 mph too (cruise, don't see how fast it take to get there) i stayed below 80mph throughout my b-in period.

I kept it all clean for about 500 miles then I gradually stepped on it a bit more each time I went out.
