I think it’s possible to not need to actually pry the ball joints out as long as you unbolt the four bolts holding the whole assembly on so you can get your hand back there.

I’m assuming the piece goes in this way?

Oh I see you have the whole console apart, yeah as long as you can get snap ring pliers under there then you don't need to take it all the way out, personal preference I guess. And yeah that's the way it goes, should only fit one way.
