I haven't posted a in a while, this new job I have has me very busy......but anyways....

Driving home from work last night, all my gauges started to flutter..it started to buck and lose power , the ABS & Airbags lights came on, then went out...Then it went away as fast as it came on, and I drove the rest of the way home. I scanned for codes: P1631 & ABS DTC P1318, both have to do with alt power getting to (or not getting to) PCM. Anyone seen this before? Does a new Alt fix this or do I need to start chasing electrical demons!? Thanks for any help.

so I tested the alt and it checks out good. So I dont know whats the issue is. Some other forums I read said something about a bad or corroded wire(grn/wht) from fuse box...anyone heard of this?

The ECU on our car controls the Alternator. Check the connections for corrosion.

thanks man. the issue hasn't come back(that doesn't mean its fixed) and car is driving somewhat normally. however, it appears that dash lights ,at night, seem dim. I going to have to trace all the wires from the charging circuit.....not looking forward to it.

Have you tried running the lights with just battery power while pointed at a wall, then start the car and see if they dim or brighten?

yup, actually I did try that. sure enough, they got brighter when the car started. which is what should happen when alt is charging. BUT today It did 20 miles from home. I got a jump and drove it 5 miles, then it died, got a jump drove five miles, you get the idea...i did that all the way home. I have an old alt that i am about to install right now. It test good at the local parts store. he ran it through the tester twice it was same each time. So hopefully this cures the issue,if not its back to the drawing board!
