I did this on a different car (Dodge Shadow, not that it matters) and it was such a huge PITA that I'd rather just sell the auto car and buy a manual. Of course I'm not as mechanically inclined as some and don't have a shop or anything. If you have a lift and good tools that will make it a LOT easier than doing it outside in a parking lot. Finding a MT 5 and getting as much of it as possible to do the swap helps, too.
You will need to find out what type of engine management system the ECU is. For example the Bosch ME7 will ONLY run a very specific set of parameters, so transmission type, engine displacement, even tune level are not swappable.
