Yup..Clouds of White Smoke from my turbo

so your shooting straight oil out of your exhaust..

i dont think cars are supposed to do that... lol

if its oil it should be a blueish gray color.

But here is an update for you. I let my car idle for 5min and I had no smoke. When i had 5w30 in there it would easily smoke after that but with 5w40...NOTHING!

Well mine seems to have gotten worse. Smoked out the girl at the mcdonalds window this morning. Now pretty much anytime It sets at idle for 3-5 minutes it starts up and will continue as long as I idle. Its even giving up a little liquid splatter on the ground....[/QUOTMinweE]

My Turbo did the exact same thing. Ur turbo is ****** bro.and take it to the dealer.I also noticed a lot of soot build up in my tailpipe..like enough soot that if you wiped it with your finger you'd have an 1/8of an inch of soot on your finger

give a week or so lamp3. i drove my car 400 miles before switching to my downpipe so mine could have smoked but i wouldn't have known. over on the other forum someone said it took a week and it went away.

Are there a lot of 2008.5 with this problem or is it mostly the 2007 speed 3's.

I searched thru most of these "smoking" threads and have not found a clear consensis of what the problem is and if all the speeds potentially could have the problem.

I have only about 1200 miles on my 2008.5 with no mods. Have NOT had any smoking issues.

From what everyone seems to think, our turbos naturally let certain amounts of oil through the system anyhow. The catalytic converters are suspected to catch it all. When you start to remove those pieces or swap your factory exhaust with aftermarket, it starts to show it's ugly head. OR, the backpressure that you lose with aftermarket exhaust lets excess oil into the exhaust from bearing seals.

It typically doesn't happen to bone stock cars though. I've only see maybe 2 cars on the forum that had a smoking stock turbo.

Nor with an aftermarket catback or mid-pipe, since they are no more frequent smokers than stock. Rarely with a catted DP. Most often with a catless DP.

You can drop the general use of "exhaust" and pretty much limit your discussion to DP's. Boy, for a dead horse, this topic sure has a lot of life.

I only responded because he asked if it was happening to bone stock cars and what year of bone stock cars. I'm not repeating myself to be arrogant or try to prove a point. I'm just trying to provide info for someone.

But I suppose since my info seems to be wrong, ill stop contributing all together lol.

honestly if your car is smoking while all stock and you have the dealer do the oil changes i would make sure they are putting the right oil in. if you are doing the oil changes and your car smokes while stock then i would tell the dealer and get the turbo swapped.

I noticed some prolific smoking while at idle. I was just at the dealer for leaking differential seals, and now I can smell burning oil in the cabin AND I have light, oil-smelling smoke coming from the rear of the engine compartment. Sound familiar to anyone?

It should be just coming from the exhaust. Sounds like you just have an exhaust or an oil leak burning off somewhere. Are you having to add oil?

I have an early build 2007 and just put my Cpe TBE exhaust on last week. The car has 57K miles on her. So far NO SMOKE AT ALL.... I will post back in a few weeks to update the issue.

For what its worth, I had RPMC Inlet, CAI, ETS TMIC and a test pipe with NO smoking issues... The DAY after I put on my Corksport Catless DP.. whalla clouds of white smoke ONLY at idle.. I'm using pennzoil platinum 5w-30.. Will switch to a thicker oil for the next change and post results.

Well, as I said, I just got it back from the dealer. They were unable to replicate the smoke from the tailpipe part, and I'm wondering if maybe this is differential fluid that has been slung up onto the back of the engine. I know the entire length of the undercarriage was covered in the stuff, so I guess some of it could have ended up on the engine...maybe when (if) they sprayed it off?

On another note, it did take them 4 days to fix the car, and the only communication I ever got was if I called, so I let them know I expected more and ended up with two free oil changes.
