Hi, i had let 800 deactivate TCU but how to turn the modem off?

can still be location tracked by active modem?

There was an article in the NYT today that some car companies are collecting data on owner’s driving and selling them to data brokers, who in turn is selling them to insurance companies that then use that data to increase your insurance rates. OnStar and Subaru are 2 that are mentioned. Does anyone know if Mazda is doing the same?

Sure are! Had a service light come on several times that had to be cleared the hard way. I know it was meant to be cleared by a dealer only. One way to get you into a shop so they could find something that needed repairing. That's where they really make their money.

there was light on saying in vehicle connection issue, had inspection to check something like that for a few days. now the inspection light is off itself. should i go to dealer and let them kill the modem signal? should be free right it comes with the tcu.

Usually pertains to up coming service as indicated in the HUD screen. Probably reminding you in advance that the tires need rotating or oil changed or "Get your arse into a dealer, we need money!"
If there's no code issued for this, there's a one permanent coming.
