XelderX's BG FSP Build

I don't know why, but that looks like a tight fit. Very nice work, Justin!

By the way, tape/block the orafices (TB, exhaust ports, plug ports, etc). I'd hate to see something like a rogue washer accidentally fall in somewhere and yield a terrible surprise when you first fire it.

I stuffed a bunch of rags in there after I took the photos. It looks like I may have the motor mounts modified and installed tomorrow. We figured out a way to use the stock passenger mount, but flipped upside down and mounted 90 degrees off with a piece of angle connecting it to the motor. I'm making a sleeve for the driver's side mount tonight and we'll be slotting the holes for the rest of the mounts to line up properly tomorrow.

The motor is now 99% mounted in the car. I need to make a quick modification to the rear mount, but other than that it is bolted in. Here are a few pictures showing the 3 visible mounts. The rear mount just needs the hole slotted about 1/2" lower.

This is turning out to be a cool little swap. Makes me miss my BG!!! Are you putting the turbo back on this engine?

A few small things that I got done over the last few days. Delrin bushings for the front control arms and some weight reduction of the shift linkages.

I'll probably end up completely rebuilding the shift linkages out of aluminum to save even more weight. I can only get about a 1lb reduction in each linkage by drilling holes.

holy crap dude... you're not afraid that the linkage is going to break or bend being swiss cheesed that way?

It's pretty strong even with the holes. I might end up redrilling them with an even larger bit since there is still a ton of metal between the holes. All I need is for them to last from 1st to 2nd gear. I'm still leaning towards just completely refabricating them out of aluminum. I'll probably take spare linkages with me to the big events just in case.

Justin has so many spare parts from the looks of it... he can afford to test like this :D

I have a bunch of Protege5 spares, but I've only got one BG chassis. Luckily, my local U-Pull-It has 3-4 1st Gens in good shape.

I've decided to set a due date for the car's debut.

May 24-25 National Tour @ Atlanta Motor Speedway

Sweet action! I look forward to seeing you there dude!

The main thing right now is being able to afford wheels/tires before then. Tax returns will help, but it will be a tight budget to get everything together on time.

Oh that sucks. You had some wheels, but they were 5 lug weren't they?

Anyway, I love watching this thread. It will be cool to see how much power you can extract from the 2.0l, what kind of weight that BG will be pushing in the end, and how well you can autocross it (pretty damn good I bet :D)
