XelderX's BG FSP Build

Not trying to get off topic but on my HS Civic Si "project", I just had V710 225/50/14's mounted on the fronts and 205/55/14's on the rear. When those wear out (or if we can't get the car to rotate enough), we plan on trying 185/60/14 Victo's in the rear. They don't make that size anymore but I know where to get a couple. This is a great way to get rotation! We'll see if it's a decent way on a stock civic. Don't want to mess with rear toe for now.

I have mixed emotions about Hoosier making the tire. The FSP Civics VWs are definitely going to try it out. They should gain some speed from it without sacrificing too much added width over their current setups. The Proteges and Focus looked pretty competitive on the 275's. I'm curious to see how much of a new benchmark the Civics/VWs are going to put up with the new tire. I think the jury is still out on the FSP 2002s with either tire (if they can fit the 13s).

It'll be interesting for sure; I believe the Bimmers can run 13's. I really think that the Mueller ZX3 will still overpower the lighter cars most of the time; the car is still being developed and look how fast it already is.

I don't have delusions on my car re-writing STS...and after the SP restructuring, it should end up in FSP or whatever the equivilant is. I suspect that we'll end up there as well...in a year or 2. I'll just be happy to get the Hon-duhs attention once-in-a-while in STS this year.

It sure can but he just went to the 15'' wheels

Lots o pics update...wheel/tire fitment

The first two pictures are at full droop on the strut. The rest were taken with the spring removed so I could put the strut at full compression (on the bumpstop). I had already cut about an inch out of the fender for clearance.

These are with the 15X10 rim spaced out to mimic a 6" backspacing. There is some slight rubbing of the tire against the body at full lock/full compression. Basically the outer edge of the tire hitting the body just in front of the door. I believe the CSP Miatas hit in the same place. It shouldn't be an issue since the car should never be at full compression on that particular strut with the wheel at full lock.

wow, that's freakin ridonkulous. I love it! What wheels are those?

looking good, justin. you should have a significant power advantage over the civics, and a nice tire/weight advantage over the Focus. so you'll either be faster or slower than both. ;)

Oh damn... that is HOT! Who's Miata is that in the background btw?

it looks great in that gray color.

That's my girlfriend's. It's a '94 R package. It's spray painted gunmetal (previous owner). Looks pretty good from a distance. She is thinking about getting it repainted in gloss black. She'll be driving the Protege in FSPL this year.

The wheel on the Protege is a Diamond Racing wheel. It's just my test wheel. If you notice, it's a five lug. Luckily the Protege5 hubs fit perfectly on the 1st Gen, but they are way heavier than the stock spindles. I'll be ordering the correct 4X100 wheels soon.

Do you have one of those wheels... or two... cuz ahem... :D I buy!

Ah, nice looking Miata. I'm surprised she isn't autoxing that.

She has been driving it some, but not aggressively. Being the R package it isn't legal for STS2 due to the rear diff. She doesn't want to spend the money for R-comps to run ES so it's kind of in between right now.

it looks like your tires are going to hit your strut body, once they have weight on them, it'll bulge the tire to the point it touches...

EDIT: I'm probably wrong, so disregard.

Swap in an open diff and run STS2.

The picture makes it look a little closer than it actually is. There is at least a 1/16th of an inch between the strut and the closest part of the tire. That part being near the bead so it should flex any. If I do run into any rubbing issues it will be very minor and I'll just grind the threaded part of the strut down a little to clear.

Yeah, but I'd venture a guess that the car's wide enough as it is right now...

Yea...I'm trying to keep the car as narrow as posible. The rears will be interesting to fit. I'm currently looking for a 13X8 or 13X9 to test fit in the rear with a 225 tire. I'm more concerned with the width of the car in the rear since it's usually a little closer to the cones than the front tires.
