XelderX's BG FSP Build

Progress is a little slow right now. Waiting on some money and parts to come in. Seats are both in and driver's harness in. Trailing arm bushings done. The rear wheels should be on their way after the 20th. Header should be ordered next week.

Hey Justin. Not sure how attached you are to that momo passenger seat, but...........

They are 10lbs and cheap. There is also a seat cover that can be bought with them(think they were about $10 when I ordered them years ago).

Now, Im not going to vouch for comfort as its about as comfy as a vinyl covered church pew, but Im not sitting in it so who cares :p

With the stock rails the whole assembly was 20lbs. Im sure your setup also is close to that so there wouldnt be any gain in terms of weight savings, BUT it does give the option to free up a fair amount of cash to fund the other parts of the build.

"Seat"..check
upholstered...check
raised back...check
meets 20lb min rule(with sliders)...check
<$50...check

Just a thought.

The Momos are only 15lbs each so not much weight savings. I've driven a car with the Summit seats in it and I really didn't like it at all. They weren't very effective at holding you in while cornering. That was a DSP car.

Justin, what are your expectations on car weight when all is said and done? I am looking forward to seeing it in September!

Van

I'm not really sure. The 1st Gen Proteges start out around 2450lbs. 2200lbs would be a conservative #. I'm not exactly sure how much weight I'm taking off so we'll just have to wait and see where she ends up.

And I agree, but my suggestion was for the PASSENGER seat, not as a replacement for the drivers seat ;)

In other words, unless theres some pressing reason to have a $250+ seat in the passenger side(which does nothing but sit there), Id rather use something else rules compliant/cheaper and pocket the cash for something else more critcal...like 275 hoosiers. Again, just a thought.

My girlfriend will be driving with me once the car is done. I figure one of us will be riding shotgun a lot for instructional purposes until she gets comfortable pushing the car hard. I wasn't going to use the passenger Momo at first, but I figured I would be spending some quality time on that side of the car for the first few months. Once I feel she is up to speed I may change the passenger seat, but it's not a big priority right now. I know that the car will be a long way from fully prepped by the time Nationals gets here so I'm not sweating the secondary stuff too much right now. I will keep your seat recommendations on file though, for the right time. Will Kalman should be sending me a little care package soon with some retired Escort suspension goodies.

Makes perfect sense to me. Just throwing out some suggestions to an in-process build.

Justin,
Did you get the suspension bits off of Will's car? I know that he modified some GC camber plates for the rear--do you know what they started life as and how they were modified? I tried PMing Will on SCCAForums...he's not around.

Cusco plates need to come from Japan and take 2 months plus to get...and I dont really want to wait that long. We popped in some camber bolts for the meantime...but those are a bandaide at best.

can you slot the holes in the strut to get a little more camber in the meantime?

Last I talked to him he was in the process of taking all the suspension stuff off his car. I'm expecting for him to be done and ready to ship everything to me this week. I will ask him the next time he emails me and I'll send you some pictures once they arrive.

Rear wheels came in today. 949 Racing 6UL 15X8s.

Looks like I'll need a very thin spacer (around 3-5mm) to make sure the tires clear the struts.

The tires sit really close to the trailing arms, but I'm thinking it might be toed in a hair on the rears making it look worse than it will actually be. The pictures were taking with the lateral links level with the ground. It looks like I may be able to get away with not having to hack up the rear quarters.
