Wtf happened to my car?!

i was driving on the highway yesterday and was accelerating pretty fast, but not redlining my p5, and after i get off the highway my car starts making a very loud clicking noise. It sounded like a bike with a baseball card stuck in the wheel, a continuous click click click, coming from what seemed to be either the engine itself or the transmission. After reving the car in neutral it went away but came back, and then my check engine light came on. The car idles very rough now and i think i might have misfired a cylinder or something. If anyone has an idea please help cuz i just ran out of my factory warantee by 500 miles and i know the dealership is gonna charge me through the ass to fix anything.

probably engine more than tranny. sounds like a vcts screw came loose and was sucked into the engine. I'd have it looked at asap to make sure you didn't damage the cylinder head or spark plug...

You need to descrbe the clicking in more detail. Was it in time with the revolutions of the engine, or was it independent of the timing of the cycles? Zath, I think if something got sucked into the engine, he would hear it all the time, not just when moving/accelerating.

true, but he wouldnt have an idle problem if it was tranny related...

If its running like s*** IN GEAR, and running fine otherwise, then I think you better look into the transmission.

get it checked out ASAP if your throwing CEL's though...

Yeah, best bet it to take it to Autozone (if you feel it's safe to do so) and get them to plug in a diagnostic computer for free. It would be a loit easier to tell what the problem is if we had a code to work with.

Whatever the case, find out ASAP. If the car's only 500 miles out of warranty and still bone stock, the dealer might just goodwill warranty it...

i had this exact problem 4 times, what the dealership said was that the spark plugs were becoming flattened and misfiring and they had to replace my whole intake manifold and some hoses...get it checked out quick they said its from accelerating hard for a good distance like if you were merging onto a 70mph highway

but spark plugs don't go in the intake manifold

Spark plugs can't get "flattened" in our engine either unless there's a foreign object in the cylinder. Sound's like you got hosed by your dealership.

check your oil, my guess is that you ran it low on oil and spun a bearing, congrats you need a new engine

wow...dont go to that dealer EVER again. Buy a few car books and start learing otherwise when you get out of warrenty, well lets just say that you will feel like a hooker that works at a dockside bar while the navey is in, sans the money

this has happened to me and some other ppl, a screw came off the vtcs and got sucked it the engine, check ur spark plugs, in my car they replaced

intake many
fuel injectors and rail
4 spark plugs


take it/tow it to the dealer asap, and don't mention the warranty miles, keep it on the low

Actually I take that back, it kinda makes sense if a loose VICS screw was really what the problem was. But 4 times in a row!!?

hey they might be stupid but it fixed the damn problem well and it hasnt come back in the last 7 months and the tips of spark plugs can flatten because i have 3 of them that they took out of my car over the different times it broke.

Like I said, it's impossible for a spak plug to get flattened unless there is a foreign object in the combustion chamber.

the piston could smash into it, but by that time you already have alot more problems to worry about
