Would you have purchased the Protege5 if it was only offered in the US as a Familia like this, but with the same powertrain?

Probably not. What first caught my attention was the front end, and got me researching. If it looked like that i probably wouldnt have looked into it.

that looks like your typical soccer mom station wagon, so no i would not have. what makes the car are the different front bumper and stock ground effects. i honestly can't think of any body kit out there that significantly improves the look of the car. mazda nailed the styling.

but if a v6 option had been offered... :D

No...the rear end reminds me of the 90ish Escort and Tracer wagons. (shocked) The styling of the P5 is what caught my eye four years ago. MyZmZm hit it dead on "Mazda nailed the styling". Of course extra power from the factory would have been nice but I would buy mine all over again.

Nope, I'd never get used to driving from the right side of the car.

looks like the nerdy geek of the family, while the protege5 looks like the cool hip brother.

Not a chance, I was willing to overlook the weak motor because I had to rescue this beautiful white sportwagon from the used car dealer lot. I was torn between this and a millenia. Since the millenia was just a base version and not the S the choice was easy for me. The huge fogs, understated but perfect aerokit, low profile rubber and fun driving dynamics won me over.

We actually got rid of an Impreza wagon (OB Sport) for the P5. Roughly the same size car, but the P5 had better leg room front and rear, add to that the better gas milage and simplicity of not having AWD, and the P5 was a clear winner. Now, if it weren't soooo dead sexy, as in the picture at the top of this thread, it may have taken us longer to notice it, and we may have missed our chance! We had a friend in the MSCW buy one, and once we checked hers out, it was only a matter of time!
