Would you guys like a complete how-to on audio here at the forums?

I have noticed while posting that not a lot of people in the forums are up to speed on car audio. I noticed one poor fellow thinking ohms change the speaker's frequency response, ie. he was going to get a few 2ohm speakers, and a 4 ohm speaker to "get all the frequencies"...

So, thinking about it, I can easily take a few minutes/hours and create a complete post on how car audio works, and how to build a system for our Mazdas.

Its a bit of work, but I enjoy seeing people do it right. Would it be worth doing here?
... wow. I know you are trying to be 'nice' and everything but you are coming off really concieted and full of yourself.

We have alot of Certified people in here that KNOW what they are talking about. Alot of audio moderators also.

I myself am sure that thier are plenty of knowledgeable people on thise board but another helpful sticky or how-to can't possably do any harm IMO

i don't see a problem with it as a lot of 3 owners don't leave the 3 section even though the rest of the forum isn't directed towards the protege but towards car knowledge in general... and yeah between 1sty, chulyer, and poseur we have a large knowledge base in car audio, and i am no slouch myself though it does get old explaining what a LOC is or even though the box says ### of watts it doesn't mean it, and how to match an amp to a speaker and why to by the amp first not the speakers... so a general audio knowledge thread would be useful

You guys are posting in the forum right now...It's not another audio forum that you need...What we need is more 3/MS3 related audio CONTENT like the "How-to" proposed in this thread...By all means make it happen guys!

Antoine, I'm really not sure why you changed the main CA&E section to be a Protege-Based section. 90% of Car audio applies to all makes and models. The only information that singles out a particular car is dash kits, speaker sizes, and OEM integration tips/tricks.

What you will find under the newly renamed Protege-Based CA&E section are the following threads. These threads apply to all Mazdas...and belong in an all-Mazda CA&E section.

Audio FAQ - Basic questions people ask about car audio
Speaker Sizes, Harnesses, and Kits of all Mazdas! As the title says, information for all mazdas (or at least what 1sty and I have gathered)
Aux Input, On its way!!! - A discussion about the auxilary input options on Mazdas, specifically Proteges.
The $1000 Audio Challenge!!!!! - Suggested gear for a $1000 budget.
NEW: The $500 Audio Challenge!!!!! - Suggested gear for a $500 budget.
Rear Speaker Discussion - Read if you are considering upgrading rear speakers.

These threads can also be found under the HOW-TO section...
HOW-TO: Mazda3 Front Speaker Install - Basic speaker installation
Installing different sized speakers in your car - A tutorial on building baffles.

Fourthmeal,

I went looking for the post in which you had to correct someone about ohms. It was not in a CA&E section which explains why I never saw it. I cannot vouch for the knowledge of members who do not post their audio related questions in an audio section (since I don't check those sections regularly) but when it comes to members who do post in the audio section, they are guided in the right direction by myself, the other audio moderators, and many non-moderator members who have equivalent or in some cases more knowledge. We would never let someone buy new subwoofers because they thought different ohms would give them more frequencies.

To think that this forum has not been helping users with audio-related questions for the past 5 years is a little naive and could be considered conceited. But since the name of our main CA&E section recently changed it is understandable. Please read through the links I posted above. If you have anything to add, please post in the specific thread and one of the moderators will make sure your information gets incorporated into the main post(s). If what you are suggesting falls into a completely new category and is not something that could be found at sites such as www.carstereo.com or www.bcae1.com (both of which I frequently link to when people ask questions) then by all means create a new thread and someone will sticky it if they feel it is information all should see before starting a new post.

Nothing is set guys...As I mentioned in my New thread...nothing is final at this point...My main concern is that even with a "Main" audio forum...Members like to stay in their own model related forum family.

I've got a possible solution in mind but I've got to run now...I'll be back to post it soon...

I personally believe, like chuyler that the proper solve for this problem would be to un-segregate the car audio sections. The "protege-based" section is what's been the main one for years, has WORLDS of knowledge, and compared to other carsites is one of the better ones on the web. It's very uncommon that anything falls through the cracks on that scene.

Yes...One main audio forum would be nice but the reality is we are NOT a one model community...Audio maybe largely universal but members should have their own model-specific forums as well (as they currently do)...These universal threads should be copied to all our model-specific audio forums.

That said...I also think maintaining an all-mazda CA&E forum maybe necessary...We can see how this system works out over time and makes changes based on the results.

Why not just create a Audio fourm with different model subfourms within that?

I tried that a while ago for the Mazda3 & 6 and no one used those sub-forums...I tried it not just for audio but other tech forums as well...the results were very clear...those tech sub-forums were ghost towns...Naturally the 3 & 6 members didn't want to leave their main forum for model-specific tech info in another main forum...

UPDATE...The current issue is how to sort our Car Audio & Electronics situation...There are two main reasons why we simply don't have just one main forum for all models...They are:

A. It's a fact that model-specific Members want model specific forums. Especially in regards to tech forums such as car audio (even if the content is generally universal).

B. Having one main car audio forum with model-specific sub-forums within it has be done in the past and did not work. Those sub-forums became ghost towns because model-specific members did not want to leave their model-specific forum...which I understand!

Current Changes:

1. I've renamed the previous Main/Protege based audio forum the "All Mazda Car Audio / Electronics" forum

2. I've moved the "All Mazda Car Audio / Electronics" forum back to the "General Tech" section

3. I've created a "Protege based Car Audio / Electronics" forum that simply directs members to the "All Mazda Car Audio / Electronics" forum.

All current model-specific audio sub-forums remain unchanged.
