MS3
I have an MS3 and as the title says, when I get on it and shift hard into 2nd, there is no chirp anymore. The car is an '07 and has 7,200 miles on it. It is stock. I used to be able to chirp the tires going into 2nd as well as 3rd, but now it won't even do it going into 2nd. Sad stuff really.
Maybe the clutch?
Operator error?
The shift feel is much more squishy than it used to be too. Thoughts?

I dunno sounds weird to me.
Why dont you try disconnecting the battery to reset the ecu?
When ever i do that the car always feels faster to me, if it wont chirp after that i got no idea what it could be.

Tires. They just spin without making noise nowadays for me.

The power is still there, I imagine.

BTW, if you are running a CAI, SRI, or factory box, make sure the air filter is clean. At 6500 miles, mine was dirty as hell...

How does ur clutch feel??does it feel like its slipping..are u coming off the clutch rapid enough??with the power of this car, chirping the tires is almost a habit..can u just roll the car in second gear and punch it at around 3000rpms and it smokes the tires??

Your tires are probably colder/hard in the winter and less likely to squeak.

If you still have a stock motor mount, it is probably squishier than when it was new, letting your engine rock more instead of the power going to the wheels.

This sounds the most likely to me. I mentioned that the shift action feels much softer than when I first got the car. I am getting the MM inserts so hopefully that will make it hook harder. I think the tire comment might have some validity as well. I need to get them rotated. I'll post again after I install the inserts and get the tires rotated. Thanks for your responses.

shucks

Well I installed my cp-e CAI, mm inserts, and shifter bushings, and had my tires rotated, but there is still no chirp...I guess I screwed up my clutch or some crap.

I've never smelled burning clutch, and this is the second standard I have owned so I'm not new to stick shift vehicles. The car really pulls nicely now that it has gotten used to the CAI, but I just can't get a good "hook". The car doesn't seem to have anything wrong with it (shifts smoothly) during regular driving, or even when I get on it.

Oh well, not the end of the world. I wanna take it to the dealership, I'm just not sure of the best way to put the situation into words. It seems that the only way to duplicate the problem is to "abuse" it. Is that a fair statement? Any suggestions as to how to get the dealer to check the clutch without showing culpability?

edit: Just read the last couple posts, and I hope it's the cold weather.

try resetting the ecu, unplug ur battery for 15min, then if its still same, take it to the dealer and jsut say it feels like the car lost power and if they can reflash ur ecu

Getting your tires to chirp (or not chirp) is not a transmission issue unless you feel slipping of the trans or smell burning or something.

What is probably happening has already been said. Its colder now and your car is broke in. My tires hardly ever chirp and I'm pushing 18-19PSI. I can spin 1st through 2nd with relative ease without any chirping.

Use the Traction Control kill trick
Put in clutch
Rev to 3000rpm
Put in first gear
Dump clutch
Spin to your hearts content

i read in a magazine though i haven't tried it if you put the car in second gear, rev to 3500 rmps and drop the clutch and floor it you will get huge bellows of blue smoke from the tires. 2nd gear!!

i'm not sure how any of this will get your tires to chirp?

our tires, hot or cold, wont squeal after a few thousand miles,
but the do paint the floor!!!!! haaaaaaaaaa
