CX30. Data Communication Module (DCM) failure – has anyone experienced this?

Hi everyone,

I own a 2019 Mazda CX-30 Skyactiv-X, always serviced at an official Mazda dealer in Spain.
Recently, the Data Communication Module (DCM) failed, even though I’ve never used any of the connected services (MyMazda app, remote functions, etc.). The dealer quoted €1,700 for replacement.
This seems like a premature failure of an electronic component that should last the lifetime of the vehicle, especially since it hasn’t been used.
I’ve already filed a formal complaint with Mazda Spain, asking them to cover the full cost.
Has anyone here had a similar issue with the DCM or eCall system on the CX-30? Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Juan Antonio. Madrid (Spain)

The module you're calling DCM it's actually the TCU (Telematics Control Unit). Yes, TCU's have issues, some of them are;
1- in Europe 2G/3G cell towers are shutting down, check with your provider in your country,
2- the TCU internal battery needs replacement
3- the module may require a software update.

Any of these issues can throw DTC error codes and a message on the instrument cluster.
In the UK won't pass MOT inspection. Mazda needs to come clean and solve it.
You did good filing a complaint but also I suggest to contact user @ASH8 via private message, he's no longer visiting this Mazda24/7 forum. You'll find him at any other Mazda forum. For more info read all TCU pinned threads in the 2019 Mazda3 audio & electronics section of mazda3revolution.com Good luck
