wondering IF an MP3 ecu is worth it.

Can someone please just combine the MP3 ecu with the P5 part that controls the sport auto tranny?

but the ECU is a direct swap right? plug and play and i'm on my way?

do you know if the MP3 ecu leans out the P5 air/fuel ratio?

Thanks

Last I read was reading about 10 in open loop, so it's still runs very rich under WOT...That's why I'm working on installing an AFC to lean out the mixture and keep the engine in closed loop....

Under regular driving it's trims the AF ratio to as close to 14.7 as it can..So it does not run rich/lean...

The largest gain is from the advanced timing...

EDit....Yes it's a direct swap...about 15 minutes..plug and play..

what does open and closed loop mean?

p.s. direct swap? ;) (forgot to answer that one, but im pretty sure it is)

Closed loop....ECU takes the readings from the O2 sensor and "trims" the fuel levels to reach 14.7:1 ratio...or as close as possible...

Open loop....ECU disregards all readings from sensors and runs a "base" map that is pre-programmed into the software...Open loop comes on during times like cold-starts, decelleration, and Wide Open Throttle...

to resurrect..i just got my hands on one.

how hard is the install? and..when people say timing advance..that's the ignition timing?

funky, it's pretty quick.

just go to the passenger side front
pull back the carpet
take off all the 10mm bolts holding down the floor plate
wear gloves, lift the floor plate up (will still be connected to ecu)
disconnect oem ecu, reconnect the mp3.
(there is a bolt on top of the ecu wiring harness to loosen and tighten on)

and no you don't feel a damn bit of power

LOL..i guess I'll just have to dyno again. BUt I do look forward to the smoother power curve and hopefully this will work better in conjunction w/ the AFC and the modified intake manifold

What AFC do you use?

so..i just put my ecu in. No noticeable difference yet except for the fact i'm paying $1.10 for a Liter of 91 octane. Super rich under WOT. But 3rd gear pulls a bit better on the highway...like above 100kph. The car seems to want to pull past 6500rpm now.

Don't worry, it will get better with time. I didn't notice anything at all at first. But day after day it seemed to get much better.

Give it some time my friend. ;)

Someone told me that Mazda dealerships can reflash the P5 ecu to an MP3 map...and that it's relatively cheap (less than $100). Does anyone know anything about this? If I reset the ECU later to clear a code (pump the brake, disconnect the battery, etc) will it erase the reflash too? Or is it more permanent?

It's permanent.

You're lucky if you can find a dealership that's willing to do it--most are full of asshats who don't know what they're talking about.

And you may need an MP3 on hand from which to rip the software.
