i know this may have been covered before, but i got to tell you, this is a 10 min mod that makes a world of difference. i live in the northeast and the weather this time of year bites, rain, rain and more rain. anyway, swapping out the wiper control with the one form the MVP gives you a real intermittent wiper. not that crappy thing we got with the car. it cost me $70, but it is well worth it!

yes, 10 minutes is about right. I swapped my P5 and MPV. Wife never used it on the MPV, I used it all the time on the P5. Well worth it (even to buy for $70).

yep...i'm getting an MPV stalk for my birthday...since it started snowing already..i'm gonna be glad to get it in.

well, maybe 15 mins top, that's trying it out also......the old one is sitting in my garage. you need it?

if I get one at a salvage yard will it work? are there any aditional wires needed or just the stalk?

definitely try to get one at a salvage yard. all you need is the stalk and the white "box" attached to the end of the stalk. doing the switch involves unscrewing 4 or so screws and plugging the new one in.

Yeah it's pretty much a plug and play operation. I did this mod on my ES when I had it. I'm just surprised a modern vehicle like the Protege doesn't come with adjustable delay as a standard feature.

hey mazdadan, I was just reading up on this on other posts and I saw that for the sedan you would need the euro 626 stalk. Is this true? which did you use?

Nope, I just used the MPV wiper stalk from www.mazdastuff.com

*edit* Now that I think about it, I may have had a euro stalk. They had to special order it and it cost about 66 bucks.

The part number for the Euro Stalk is GE6M-66-128. I just found the receipt from it. Other people from the board have also ordered the part from www.corksport.com. Derrick will know what you are talking about.

The rear wiper switch on the stalk will not control anything. If this bothers you, then you might need the euro 626 one.

so it is a direct fit? just the extra switch for the rear? But it will directly fit right?

Yup a very simple mod. BTW the stalk and the box are one piece and it plugs in easily. Got mine off a wrecked MPV at work before it was carted off to the salvage yard. Definitly worth doing.

i emailed corksport a little while back and just got an answer on the sedan euro 626 stalk yesterday (from Derrick also). He quoted me $70 for it, but it will take 4-6 weeks to get it. Im going to order 1 from work today. hate not having variable intermittent wipers, so the wait will be worth it. i was suprised it is cheaper than the mpv stalk from mazdastuff. i figured hard to get would make it more expensive automatically. ill take some pictures when i get it and post them here if anyone else is considering doing it.

Yeah, see I had Mazdastuff special order my stalk for my ES, but I bet Corksport will be the best bet for most folks.

I agree easy mod. I got mine for free though. My dad works at a dealer that has mazda.

Trading Power.

The head Mazda tech was impressed with me when I did it and knew what part to get. I told him to go to this website to find everything out.

Couple questions/thoughts:

First, I know you guys are talking for the P5, soo I'm guessing that the MPV stalk has the control for the rear wiper...for the Euro 626 stalk, I'm guessing that this does not have the rear wiper control? Are those two assumptions correct?

Now, my thought or concern is this: The standard Proteges did not come with the variable intermittant wipers, will swapping out the stalk with one that has the variable feature in any way put more stress on the wiper motor....you know, doing things it wasn't initially intended to do?

Thanks,
Jesse
