Winter tires/wheels for MS6

ok, thanks to everyone responding.
I'll try to find some decently priced 17" wheels probably 205/50/17 205/55 or something around that.
I will look into green diamonds too but they may not be available in Canada. Never heard of them at least. Or Nokian is another good alternative.
Storage wise - I'm keeping tires in the storage in the basement so freezing is not a concern.

You're going to hate me for this one but I just picked up a set of 225/45/18 Dunlop winter sport M3s from a poster on CraigsList.org. Here's the kicker...he gave me all four for $200 and they have less than 3,000 miles on them.

Anyway, I'm just mentioning this because I have bought other tires from Craigslist and you should check it out before dishing out $800 on a new set. You might not find anything right away, but give it a few weeks and broaden your search radius by checking other craigslist regions and you'll find something.

Anyone here have any thoughts on these tires for the winter, Falken Ziex ZE-912 in 215/55/17, and will the size be ok on our car ? I'm just gonna buy cheap steal winter rims to go with them.

Falken Ziex ZE-912 are not winter tires. They are just all seasons, so if you are going to keep two sets of tires, for summer and winter, just get good winter tires, like Dunlop's Winter Sport M3. Also, consider 215/50/17 size as it is almost like 215/45/18 (0.06% difference). Here is the tire calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I think I'm gonna go with 215/50/17(good call koes) but with the Continental Extreme Contacts, I found a new set for about $500 cdn shipped, so now I just need to find someone selling 17" steel rims for cheap and I'll be set, anyone know of any places selling 17" steel rims for cheap ?

I was at mazda asking about winter tires and they told me they'd get me winter tires and rims off a regular 6 for $1200, package deal they have on. Oh and Dutchbuffalo you can get regular steelies at walmart for $69 each

You can get steelies for cheaper through tirerack when they have their winter specials. Select one of their combo packages and put it in your shopping cart...then remove the tires. I think I only paid $30/ea for steelies for my wife's corolla. Those were 14"s so I assume 18"s will be a bit more.

Dunlop M3's available in 18"

and fit the stock rims. Snow tires that get good grades from everyone that fills out that Tire rack questionnaire.

anyone mounted a set of 225/45/18 yet, im looking at the same tires, notice any difference - ride quality, cornering, sidewall bulge
