Winter sucks

Crap it's minus 25 degrees out and the pulley on the air condition pump, condenser or whatever the hell it is seized up. Won't need the ac now or for the next 4-5 months .... car reeks of burnt belt. Kind of ironic replacing the the ac in the middle of winter.

haha negative 25 degrees!!!! Screw that! I couldnt never live where you do! Its like positive 35 degrees out and Im dying!!!

its like 20 here and im complaining haha sucks to be replacing ac in winter haha

AC or AC belt? How could ya tell if AC was fixed at that temp other than just the belt not melting? G A R A G E & simpled down beater 4wd or awd with heater minus AC FTWW (for the winter win) Woo good luck with that, I don't even wanna think about trying to work on something in that kinda weather.

got the 4wd beater covered.Good heater..bad tires, everything leaks,250,000km but starts every day The P5 will be at a WARM shop by weeks end. GetAttachment.aspx.webp

If it is truly seized try getting a smaller belt and bypassing it (i am not looking at the car to see if that is possible - just a thought).

Use a hard dryer to warm it and try again? Again, why do you think it is 'seized'? What do you see/hear that supports that? Can the the engine run? Help us help you.

Thanks but all is good for now

I thought I could smell the belt burning last time i drove the car. I checked the belt it looked ok then checked the pulleys and it looked like the ac pulley wasn't turning. The lighting in my garage is poor so it was hard to see the pulley move...I ended up marking the black pulley with caulk and with that I was able to see it ok. I still don't know the source of the smell...time will tell. Out of curiosity I called Mazda in Winnipeg... over a grand for a new ac pump. Used about 300.00 but they are hard to find. Anyway thanks for the interest in helping.

last summer i had this happen to me and started a thread. when i started the car the belt would just spin around the pulley and shread. i checked behind the pulley to make sure something was not locking it up, i used a malled and tapped at it cross wise, and then i sprayed tons of pb blaster on the pulley joints and let it sit over night. It was fine, i started the car up, analyzed all gauges, monitored the engine bay for a bit and everything was fine. drove the car the rest of the summer no probs.

For all you in the world that never learned, it's "MINUS", not "negative". There is no such thing as negative temperature.

-38 at the international airport two nights ago. i don't think that even factored in the windchill....(eek2)

Is it the same smell as burnt clutch smell?
My car was frozen stiff a few days ago here in Calgary. My car wouldn't start. Car wouldn't crank, clutch and brakes were stiff, seats were hard, fan motor squealing, stereo didn't work, when i did get it started (had to plug in block heater and boost battery) suspension was extremely stiff....I hate winter.

i've never really had the experience to smell a burnt clutch, i guess i have somewhat minor but not to awful. just smells like a burning, so i guess the answer would be yes. but, still make sure everything is okay. i new everything was okay when i also took the pulley itself off and could move the water pump around then, when i put the pulley back on it did the samething. but for some reason after going through all the precautions and putting it back on and letting it sit with pb blaster over night it was fine

Just received about 20 cm of snow here in Quebec... (about 8 inches I think) Even with my brand new tires I had the hardest time... winter... I hate you... But finally made it home safely! ABS FTW!

A/C compressor turns on when you use defrost.... Dehumidify's the air, and keeps the seals from drying out during winter. Just as an FYI.

Took the car out today. Still smell the burning smell but I notice that with the lights on,fog lamps on,fan running full speed and the rear defrost on(it's -27 today) the engine service light came on after 20 minutes or so. By the time I got the car home it wouldn't restart...the battery was run down. The battery was changed in July and at the same time the alt was tested, i was told it was ok. Now I am not so sure. With the car running now, when I turn the fan on high the lights dim...if I turn the defroster on the fan slows down. I lifted the hood and the smell i think is coming from the alt side(hard to tell though). I am guessing the alt is failing hopefully can get the car in before the holidays.

more loving winter...feeling some civic duty I volunteered some time back to drive for Operation Red Nose. If you're not familiar it is a X-mas service where volunteers drive drunks home from bars, partys, socials etc. fewer drunks driving and people get their cars home. It operates from 9:00pm to 3:00am Tonight is my night forecast is -32 with w/chill in the 40's. thinking about all those cold veh-icicles tonight makes my piles hurt!!!

i kind of like winter...i live near st-eustache in quebec and we have lot of snow and its really cold but I love doing e-brake in the snow.
