wELL I GET UP THIS MORNING GO OUTSIDE TO MY CAR AND THE DAM WINSHEILD HAS A CRACK IN IT. FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE TO THE MIDDLE OF IT. NO CHIP NOTHING TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN JUST UNDER THE MOLDING TO THE MIDDLE. ANY IDEAS ON THIS??:wtf:

if no rock chip, then it's under worranty.
buncha MP3's had their windshields crack for no reason, and all got it replaced under worranty.

i woke up one morning and found out that my windshield had a crack. I examined the crack very closely and saw a tiny chip by the molding. When i drove the car home the night before i didnt have a crack. Windshield cooled overnight........shrank.....and the stress that was put on it by the rock the night before caused it to crack.
no chip = worranty repair.

could be a stress fracture either way your insurance will fix it. Its the law

please explain more on this.

what do u mean "insurance will fix it"?
my deductible is $500....new windshield is $350 (dealer) $240 (outside shop).
i think either way i'm screwed cause it's less than my deductible.

When my windshield on my MP3 crack for the first time, it was without any rock impact. I got them to fix it under warranty!

But i am conviced they have a design flaw yet again, as each time i get hit by a rock, it makes a huge crack instantly ( heard the rock hit, saw the crack appear ). Funny thing is the crack always started from the side of the windshield towards the center ( where the rock hit ).

Had cars for 8 years before having the MP3, never cracked a windshield. Now 3 times? pft.

Welcome to the club! Many MSP owners have had this problem. If there is no stone chip visible then take it back to your dealer. If there's a stone chip then you have to go thru your insurance or suck it up. :)

Check with your insurance company. Some policies have a different deductable for glass.

Before that though, I'd try for a warranty fix. It is a known issue. Even with a chip, how do they know if the chip came first, or if glass chipped away at the end of the crack.

My personal theory on this is that they improved the suspension, but the body is still a Protege and more prone to flex than a sports car designed from the ground up. I think that the stress that would normally go into body roll is instead translated into body flex due to the improved suspension. Just my theory.

but since i have a deductible the insurance will tell me to go to hell, right?

This makes me nervous guys. I havent gotten my msp yet. But why are you saying the MSP is prone to this type of stress fracture. The structural integrity of the body isnt strong enough to keep its own windsheild from cracking? Wouldnt this relate too all protege's since the bodies are identical minus skirts, and bumpers? Or could it have something to do with the overall "stiff" feel of the car? I dont know... fill me in here.

Razorbladekiss- It's probably the suspension of the mp3/msp, as I have not heard of any issues with the p5 or es/lx. Just a little off topic, and I am not flaming you in anyway, but why don't you get a normal protege if you plan on modding it like in your sig.? You plan on modding just about everything that makes a msp different from an es, aside from the stereo.

it's not the body flex.....
our glass is much thinner because of weight issue.

i've been riding with minis a few times and a lot of those guys get same cracks because of thin glass.

You better believe it! The only thing that could maybe save you is if you pay an un-Godly amount for your insurance as it is --- if that's the case they may cut you a break for being such a "good" customer for them (i.e. a cash-cow). F-ing insurance.

Like I said, I'm just speculating but even if I am right, not all Proteges should have this problem. My thinking was that the body is plenty stiff for the suspension of a normal Protege, but not rigid enough to keep up with the upgraded MSP/MP3 suspension. Yes, the bodies are the same, but the forces acting on them are different. A regular Protege will slide earlier than a
MSP so it is never subjected to the body flex that we get at .89G.

Anyway, just my opinion. I have never heard of them using thinner glass due to weight. At 2843 I didn't think our cars were all that light for their class.

This crack happenned to me 1 day after I bought the car. Took it back to the dealer and they replaced it under warranty. I have not had a problem since the original crack. 10,000 miles strong and still lovin the car.

I had a Mazda 6s and it had a huge crack in the windshield. It was in between the driver and passenger seats, starting from where the windshield wipers are and going to about the middle of the windshield.

At first I thought it was a stress fracture. When I traded the car in the dealer showed me the chip where a rock hit it, they said I need to get it fixed or else they take $500 off the price of the car.

Here is where it becomes interesting I'm not sure if its a Florida law or not but when it is your front windshield they have to fix it no deductible. I called the Insurance company told them I was getting warranty repairs done and a rock hit my windshield and cracked it. They sent someone immediately to fix it, no deductible no cost to me whats so ever.

So find out from the Insurance Company, like I said I'm not sure if its a Florida thing or not. Sorry this is soo long....

if there are no signs of a rock fracture (which you said there wsn't) then it will be covered by the factory warranty.

mine cracked from a rock, but since i live in fla it was covered by the state law. it cost me nothing but 2 hours to let the guy put it on.

what ever you do, make sure you get OEM glass put on the car.
many aftermarket companies have "pitted" glass which is weaker/thinner than OEM. looks bad too.

thanks guys
i think this thread was useful for both ZMN BY U and I.

Cracked windshields sound like the norm... I had mine maybe 2 months at the most -- my wife was standing next to the car (parked) and it cracked right before her eyes. From the top down to the center. Our dealer in Va Beach was real cool about it though -- they replaced with no fuss. If you live near Va Beach, Hall Mazda is a great place to buy from
