windshield.. yet again..

The only place is mpg? try handling :)

2mpg? Dayum, I get 36mpg on the highway all day long at nearly 80k miles on the clock, with my mods! If the subie gets 34 that's pretty awesome :)

On the highway the Subie wagon gets 28-29 and the P5 gets 30-32. My P5 has never been even close to 36mpg on the highway although I can imagine it might do that if I could drive 55mph for a few hours. Very hard to drive that slow on the open highway in California without getting run over from behind! The highway numbers are at 70-75mph. Both cars are automatics.

The P5 is a lot more fun to fling around in the corners, of course, but it also has some really annoying motions on uneven pavement, from the omnipresent kick in the ass on expansion joints to a front to back rocking motion which seems to result from a resonance condition on a few bits of highway. The right lanes of the I10 westbound near San Gabriel trigger this rocking motion every time. I've only felt it for a second or two on other highways. And no, there's nothing wrong with my struts.

69mph, cruise control on, manual transmission :) .. the mods helped, let the car breathe easier and work less to go the same speed. I know what you mean about going over expansion joints and also know what you mean about that rocking motion.. it's all exaggerated with my craptastic goldline springs and my tokico HPs that are overvalved for those springs. I find it happens on concrete roads, never on asphalt (which 95+% of the roadways are here).

Anyone who says the P5 is loud needs to ride in my Civic. Exhaust? 2.5" straight back off the cat with no muffler. So far the cops around here haven't complained too much. Once it's turbo, I'm sure they will.

stock the P5 is very quiet (remember though, it's a compact car.. it's not going to be like a cadillac DTS at speed haha).

take a ride in the legacy.

my radio is on 2 and i can still clearly hear it. i think ito maxes at 40. there is wind whistle though when you start getting up to high speeds.

the p5 is an economy car though as you said. but imo far from "very" quiet.

i never hated the p5 just saying that it's not all that. the only way you will use the "awsome cornering" is if you drive like a dumbass every second of the day. i nerver though it was that good at all. the back end just rolls waay to damned much. understeered pretty badly too.

oh noes....... rock impact? or stress?

I got a chip yesterday when a truck kicked up a rock :(. Fortunately, progressive is footing the bill, and even repairing an older (like, since right after i got the car), smaller chip while they're at it.

yay for insurance! with mine I have a $250 deductable so it wasn't really worth the cost of the paperwork..

i believe in florida your insurance supposed replace the windshield on request without charging the deductible. someone correct me if i am wrong. it could be like that in other states

I have to pay exactly $0 for the repairs being done tomorrow, which is kinda nice.

that's how my insurance is too.. I've never heard of someone paying for glass except for my roommate with his 230k mile volvo with original glass.. no cracks, no big chips.. just millions of tiny chips that make visibility at night awful.

another windshield

Bought my '03 P5 in late April, 2007 with roughly 21K miles on her... within a week I had a crack in the windshield... coming up from the bottom center of the windshield. I've got full glass coverage so it was replaced ( No Charge ).

This past Saturday morning ( at 48,900 miles - yeah, I know... 27,500 miles in 10 months ) I noticed another small crack, starting at pretty much the same place... I don't remember having anything hit the car... when I went to clean it up with washers / wipers so that I could see it better, the crack took off in both directions ( horizontally ) about a foot each way.

I'm having this windshield pulled and changed out this Thursday.... I'm just kind of wondering is this area of the car frame subject to unusual stress... I've got no suspension mods and don't recall getting hit by anything...
