Window Tinting in Illinois = Crap

Hey guys just wanted an opinion from all on tinting my windows. I talked to the main guy from my custom shop that I go to and I asked about tinting my vehicle. He quoted me a great price of $250 with a lifetime warranty. I asked how dark I can go and I WAS DISGUSTED by his answer. He told me that in the state of Illiois you cannot tint your driver side front and passenger windows. But the stupid thing was that you can go as dark as you want on the rest except front windshield. I told him that, that would look ridiculous and he agrees. He says that they get a way by installing it on all windows by stating that the car they are going to tint is for "off-road use" or show. My question to all members here in the Illinois forum: should I tint my rear windows 50% and back 100% or 25% 45% or even tint my front at 10% where the cops would not notice? (By 10% I mean light like factory stock) He also told me that the chances of me getting ticketed for this is low but that if I get caught speeding they may ticket me on the spot for the illegal tint up in front as well. I do not know want I want to do but the main reason I wanted to tint the vehicle was to hide my electronics so people could not see them from the outside but I guess if they really wanted to break in they would. I am confused, searching for suggestions, and Illinois vehicle laws really suck and pretty much restrict how your vehicle looks and sounds. P.S. Violation = $75 (help)

10% is too dark. Correct me if i'm wrong, but they mean 10% visibility. Get something in the middle. I have 25% all around and I have never gotten pulled over *knock on wood*. I only got ticketed for it once and the gar wasparked on chicago streets. It's all depends on the cop I guess...

yeah all my percentages are based on visibility chi. Sorry for the confusion. By 10% I mean really light and by 100% I mean pure black.

5% (limo tint) is too dark. id say go with something like 30-35% all around. this percentage will alow people to see you silhouette but not any facial details. it will also still be difficult to see in your car.

Here in MO we goto an eye Dr. and tell him the light hurts our eyes. And he'll give ya a light sensitive eyes script to show the cops so they don't give ya a ticket for illegal tint. As the tinted windows are for your medical condition. Don't know if it works in Il or not.

Yeah mspeed I do not know about that here. Knowing myself, I will probably walk out of my vehicle without my shades and blow my cover or something in front of a cop. (braindead

P.S. Also I know my numbers are backwards 10% (VERY DARK), 90% (VERY LIGHT) I always talk about them the other way though. Sorry once again for those who are confused by my numbers.

Go ahead and tint the front, most cases you'll get a warning or 2 before you actually
have to take it off anyways... or... You can try to say you bought it that way. But 35% is as dark as I'd recommend on the front.

i plan on doing 30% on the front eventually.

in the summer, it shouldnt be much of an issue; just keep the front two windows rolled down while driving. (yeah i know you can still get a ticket while parked though, but the cop would have to be super m'f'n anal...)

i think napier has 3 tickets now for front tints and has just taken a picture of a stock laser blue p5 and shown that to the court and they say ok, whatever (you still have to pay the fine though).

i'm not sure what i have but it's dark as the place that installed it did. I wanna say 20%.
I have just the back 5 done and it looks good IMO.

Yeah I always figured go 35% on everything but windshield and a strip in the top. My biggest concern is not appearance, but protection of the interior from fading and lower inside temperatures so the a/c doesn't have to be on so much...

Guys I am just not a fan of giving my money to the cops thats all. Just wanted to see what you guys thought of tinting and what you guys were going to do with your vehicles. And all you Chicago guys better be careful because the cops there are even more strict than the cops out in the burbs when it comes to violations such as tint.
I am not sure still what I want to do but I like all the feed back from you guys.

this DOES work in wisconsin.

i have a doctor's note, so i can tint all my windows, i just havne't gotten around to it yet. let me tell you though, it's not as easy as you think. you have to have a REAL reason, other than the sun hurts your eyes.

I have 35% all around at night, it looks practically pitch black.

Don't be ghetto; get something lighter...

where did you go for a quote? you can get all five windows (side and rear) done at Traffic Jamz in Waukegan for almost half that

I went to the custom shop that I sometimes go to in Fox Lake Ken. $250 sounds good and if it is much less then that Ken than I would be worried. You ever here the expression "you get what you pay for." Unless you have seen their work? Around $100 bucks just worries me a little about their quality. (uhm)
