Will This Work 18 x 8.5 ET 38 with 235 x 60 Tire

I've searched the "Show me your wheels" Thread and cant find anything on these measurements.

I'm trying to see if 18 x 8.5 ET 38 with 235 x 60 Tire will work without sticking out too far.
(I'm getting a great deal on these)

Not only that I want to make sure I don't wear out the wheel bearing quicker with at 38 ET

Any info or pics especially a side profile would be great

Thanks

In terms of size, they'll work just fine.

I'm not sure about the center bore, though - if Mitsubishi uses something smaller than what Mazda uses, you might have to worry about getting them machined to fit.

Use the link provided to enter the specs of the tires and wheels that you are looking at and the specs for the CX-5 wheels which is 225/55R19 7.0 ET50 for the GT and 225/65R17 7.0 ET50

Looking at that site and putting in the specs for the new wheels it looks like they will sit out 7mm further which is 100% acceptable. I wouldn't expect any harm to come from that offset and wheel size. Your tires for the new wheels will be slightly larger resulting in speed of 60.7mph when speedometer is reading 60mph. Again not enough to worry about.

Like the other poster said you will want to make sure that the hub bore is 67.1mm or larger. The mazdas use a 67.1mm hub bore and if it's it larger you can get hub rings to take up the difference but if it is smaller they won't fit or you will need the hub bore machined larger to fit.

^ It's the same for Mitsubishi 67.1 Bore

I just want them to be FLUSH and looking through the pics on "Show Me Your Wheels" I think it might sit out a little at 18 x 8.5 offset of 38 and (per tire rack, the best tire size) 235/60

Ride92 are you saying that I can take a ruler and measure out my OEM size 17 wheels and measure out 7mm and that will be the new width ???

Thanks

ET 38 from 50 would have the tire plus wheel moving out an extra 12mm over stock. The stock rim is 7" wide, so going to an 8.5" would be 1.5" wider or 38mm. Applying half of that 38mm rim width change is 19mm.

So the lip of the rim would move outboard 19mm (wider rim) + 12mm (additional offset) or 31mm. Many people have liked a 20mm front / 25mm rear offset increase; 31mm in the front may not be to your liking.

^ Thanks Gary

That's kind of the info I'm looking for. Seems (from looking at pics on here) that 18 x 8.5 ET 45 would be more to my liking without poking out so much but still making the OEM mudflaps look useful in the rear.

Too bad I was going to get a really good deal on these and I like that they are OE so if one bends, breaks, etc I can find a replacement

You're welcome. Keep in mind that this gets confusing when looking at how the tire tread moves outboard compared to the rim. In your case, the different tire dimension plus the different rim width would move the tire (think "the tread") outboard 17mm. But the outer lip of the rim would move out 31mm. Basically, the tire would be a bit more stretched compared to the O.E. fitment. Yep, I'd personally not go with the outer rim edge moving out 31mm, but shifting the tire outboard 17mm is not bad at all.

Would it look goofy? I'm not really sure...

Gary

P.S. I have the 17" O.E. tire/wheel with 18mm/20mm F/R spacers added and I think it improves the look tremendously, so that's my benchmark for finding summer wheels/tires next year. Other's go with larger offsets and are happy.

I don't know what I was seeing when I posted before, I must have entered the info incorrectly into the calculator. it would be more then 7mm outward. Like the other guy said, 31mm further out then the current setup which is quite a bit. I would look for some wheels with less offset.

^ No worries I found one of those calculators and it said it would fill out the wheel well 7mm but would extend out 31mm which is about 1.2 inches out.

I might just take off my evo X wheels and put them on the cx5 just to see (wrong tire size of course)

I really want a nice 18 in tire in the 18 x 8.5 45 offset but cant seem to find a good one in the "Show me your wheels section"

When in doubt, I always look at what Tire Rack will sell - they tend to be just about the most conservative when it comes to determining what will fit. They'll gladly sell you an 8.5" wide wheel with a 38 mm offset, and their recommended tire (235/45R20) will typically be 9.5" wide when mounted on said wheel. Most of their options in 235/60R18 will be 10.0 or 10.1" wide when mounted on an 8.5" wide wheel, but considering their conservative nature, I wouldn't lose one minute of sleep over the additional quarter inch that the sidewall will extend outboard.
