Will I blow a Kicker 8 OHM sub?

I'm replacing the stock MSP sub cuz its blown. I have a Kicker 8 ohm on order that Circuit City said would be fine for the stock stereo system. The 4 ohm unit is currently unavailable. Am I gonna blow the 8 ohm one?

are you sure? I would assume that it's an 4ohm but that's just me.... the guys and I at the shop have yet to really dig into their audio set up.. I would just figure it's 4ohm's not 8 or 2 just by how the system seem to be set up and for ease of wiring on their end because of the factory speakers being at typically 4ohms.. anyways... that's just my 2 cents though.. I haven't actually pulled out the speakers though to test them so I don't know anything for sure

i'm positive man. i actually just pulled mine out and stamped on the magnet is 8 ohms. they probably ran an 8 ohm sub since the factory kenwood amp is bridged. hth

ahh that makes more4 sense.. but 8 ohms? dang.. well in that case.. I just might pull out mine and make a direct replacement with a kicker comp 8" 8ohm sub then

stock sub is 8 ohm.

by a 4 ohm and your amp will put out twice the power.

I ran a single 4 ohm 12 inch RF off the stock amp and it pushed it well.

since you guys are on the topic of subs, any one know about the JBL GTO Series GTO804?? I have read on the sticky thread and it mentioned 3 JBL subs as direct replacements, is the JBL I mentioned a direct replacement? Also what are some other direct replacement subs? thanks

JL and Fosgate 8 inch subs fit the stock enclosure...not sure anyone has tried the JBL

The kicker 8 ohm fits great and sounds great but I do wish the 4 ohm was available for me at the time of order. It was on backorder while shopping at Circuit City with no estimated in stock date. This doesnt really matter because the sub is in the trunk but it's black and has yellow stitching just like my interior. Kinda funny.

Ive got a kicker comp 8" and while it is an improvement over having no sub, it sounds like its hardly working, all I did was replace the factory sub. Any ideas?

Well actually you could blow it. What series is the kicker sub? Comp, CompVR? The amp is a 2 channel. It would be better to run a 4ohm sub on it bridged, being that is 120watts rms bridged at 4ohm. Running an 8ohm sub, your probably only giving it half of that, maybe 60watts rms. That a little underpowering your sub, which could lead to distortion, which in turn heats up the voice coil and could possibly damage the sub. I would deffently order the 4ohm, you will like that setup mutch better.

Ok, well, if possible, it would perform much better if you replaced it with the 4ohm sub. Than everything should match ok.

I hope this doesn't sound dumb but, is there anything you have to do differently on the 4ohm sub or do you just hook it up like normal? I don't know anything as far as audio goes.

Nope, all you do, is connect the posotive and negetive of the sub, and connect it to the amp, the amp will indicate the negetive of one channel, and the posotive of the other, this will be "bridgeing" the amp. Thats all you need to do.
