Wife got hit on the freeway in the CX-7 :(

Just in December she got T-boned which caused us to go buy our CX-7 and now, just 4 1/2 months later or CX-7 gets a pummeling. :( She was sitting in traffic when some jerk in a Lexus ES nailed her from behind forcing her into a Silverado w/ a hitch. The Lexus stopped so fast a Buick Century nailed him pushing him back into the CX-7 again. I only have two pics but you can kind of see that the sheet metal bends all the way to the rear driver's door pushing everything on that rear side out of proportion. The hatch is bent, both bumpers are gone, the hood has a bend...it makes me sick.
WOW! I with all of that damage I guess build quality WASN'T high on the list! That's alot of damage.

New cars crumple so that you don't. The car did exactly what it was supposed to do...

This is true...I actually got to see the schemadic of the car, where the crumple zones are and what sheet metal pieces need to be pulled etc.

It really did do exactly what it was supposed to do.

I don't think you need the whole side to crumple for that kind of crash! The rear quarter panel yea, but not all the way to the front door! It's not just mazda, it's all cars. But it's that's still not quality.

so brian is that all your good for anymore. Is just randomly trying to **** up threads by adding idiot ass comments at the end of them?

If you don't like it report the post.... or ask and I'll remove it..

Well, they're going to do a tear down so we'll get to see how much "hidden" damage there is pretty soon. I'm most interested in that.

The whole car didn't crumple.
The car was hit in the front, and the back.
Two separate collisions.
Build quality is no crumpling from A pillar to C pillar.
The rest of the car should crumple.

"That kind of crash" depends on the speed of the collision.
How fast did the insurance determine the Lexus was going?

After tear-down we're up to $10,100 and counting...
LOL, yea that's quality for you. My dads jeep wrangler was tboned by a lady running a red light at 40+mph. That was only 5k in damage.

I feel for you and you car bud. But after this I would get something else to drive. It sounds like it will never be the same.

:bs:
Shipping parts from Japan costs more than shipping domestically. The cost is already inflated because it is a brand new model and parts are not readily available. A wrangler is also not unibody, so there is no comparison between how much body work costs between the two. The OP hasn't even said if the damage was structural or just cosmetic, so I'm not sure that "ditch the car" is the best advice just yet...

The insurance company didn't say how fast the Lexus was going...the body shop figured it was a good 40-45mph hit. While the front end had damage, the body shop said it was very minimal...a front fascia only pretty much. There was no hood/fender damage up front.

The rear took the brunt and the reason its so expensive is that there are two pieces which need to be replaced that are $1,000.00 each. The tailgate and the driver's side rear 1/4 panal.

Look guy, you have your opinion and I have mine. Thats cool I get it. You own a CX7 so you dont want to hear someone say its bad or what have you. But lets face it. At 40 mph 10k in damage is a lot! And I might be wrong here, but Unibody use to mean the BODY a vehicle (like the old ford trucks) are 1 peace. If that is still what a unibody is then yes a jeep wrangler is a unibody. Only the front fenders (like the old ford trucks separate. On my dads jeep the cut the door, rocker panels and the drivers rear quarter panel. True, these are different cars and Mazdas will cost more, but NOT double! If so that would be another BIG reason why not to get one. Poor fuel mileage, the engine problems (just read some of the threads here) and the cost of owner ship! In this case, this poor SUV will never be the same.

Any ways, its obvious that you like yours A LOT and Im just an outsider. So Ill leave you to your own.
And as for the other guy, I hope every thing comes out alright. Make sure they check out the motor mounts and such. We all know Mazda makes pretty weak mounts. A jolt like this could cause them to tear.

She is ok and the baby inside her is ok...
OMG..yes thank God she and the baby are ok. I am SUPER paranoid about getting hit being a pregnant mommy myself. I love that the CX-7 is safer than my old Tribute. :)

Congrats on the baby, btw. I'd love details if you want... :)

You're right, I do love my car. But that is not the point; I would have said the same thing about any car (any new car anyway, where the parts and labor are going to be elevated).

BTW, I wasn't trying to call you out. If the frame is bent even slightly, then I say ditch it; if the motor mounts are bad (which has not happened yet on a CX-7 or a MS6 for that matter; just the MS3), then ditch it. Body work only; let insurance fix it and go on with your life. Just my 2 cents. As you said though; all the best to offset_98; hope everthing works out...

I'll keep everyone updated on the car's progress. I'm having the bodyshop make sure motor mounts and transmission mounts are in good shape. They seem like a really good body shop. They told me they will not rush the job whether the insurance company likes it or not. They garauntee their work and have some amazing before/after pics. I looked long and hard for a body shop here in town I trusted and this is it. They call me weekly to give me updates which is really, quite nice.

I hate that this process can take so long; better that they do it right the first time though! I used to have a rav4 that was in the body shop for a total of four weeks when my wife backed into the house at about 5mph (sore subject; don't ask). House was unscathed; car had $4,000 worth of damage (rear mounted spare pushed the entire tailgate in)...

Well, I drove the Mazda 6 rental for the first time today to work instead of my company car...I don't know...its 110 here today and the A/C garbage! I handed it in and am waiting on a Maxima to return. Hopefully it'll have better A/C. Even my Jeep's is better!
